  • Camping

Just got back from a rainy weekend in Buxton with friends. Aside from a slight issue with the inner tent being left in my parents loft (thanks Dad) we managed to make shelter for 16 people.

Mostly held together with duct tape. We were in the nice, dry tent on the left.

Went very nicely with steak, a log fire and a San Christobel!

I love camping, in fact I'm taking my Son for a boys night, hopefully next Saturday.

Have you been to the Lane Head site in Buxton?

No, we were on Cold Spring Farm, is Lane Head good?

Sean, camping is a great family holiday, just give it a bit of time.

I haven't been yet, I've always preferred wild camping (before I had kids) & Lane Head Farm seems to be a good compromise between seclusion and civilisation when I'll have a 6 y.o. with me.

Sounds great, I too prefer wild camping and find a field with a shower block not good. Now we have one boy under two and one due in November I'll be taking the fambo clamping next summer. I can't wait until the boys are big enough to take wild camping, dad and the boys, three fishing rods and an air rifle. A recipe for super fun and danger that we may have to camouflage the truth of to mummy.

Now that sounds a fantastic weekend. Tried showing my step daughter an air rifle but wasnt impressed, shame as id love an excuse to add a 410 to the cabinet.

I don't have shotguns yet, I am lucky enough to shoot shotties and small bore rifles occasionally but never applied for the licence as I had a dodgy past. Been ok for years but always thought it would go against me. That and no free time to make use of them! I'll try one day.

Sounds like you had a good time. I personally hate camping but that's just me!

Shotgun licenses are pretty easy to get, I'm told. Worse that could happen if you applied is lose ?60.

Yeah, I had a great time. Had the sense to pack boil in the foil curries for the first night so we were the only couple who had hot food. Hot food and 2L of scrumpy, recipe for a good night's sleep!

Yeah I'll do it, I guess I've worried that being turned down once would make it harder later on. I had a conviction which is spent this year so...

Well its spent now so it shouldn't matter as long as you can show everything else is fine and honestly now or later its equally spent. I periodically feel like getting a shotgun and taking up shooting but its a bit of a rich man's game and I've hardly any time for my current hobbies.

I've also always wanted to try wild camping but again, never seemed to find the time.
