If you don't fill in the form you account is blocked! Such a well written document.
    Simple Rule.

If you get an e-mail from a Provider that you use like Amazon, PP or eBay .... don't open it. Just log into your account, anything genuine that they want you to know or to deal with will be there.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Are you sure its your NI number that has changed and not you tax code?

Could it be your employer was using the wrong number and HMRC have told them to change it as was wrong doubt it's a scam as letter from your employer I would contact them to get to the bottom of it though

I'd agree. Contact HMRC directly to find out if it is genuine or a con.

Assuming the employer weren't the ones to fall for the scam. Prob a mistake.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Try and answer some of the queries here.

It's a letter not an email (I've had my fair share of the phishing ones as well and they're getting crafty)

Certain it's my NI not my tax code. Payslip I received on Thursday has the same tax code as I've had all year (1000L) which is what puzzled me with the increased PAYE

A phone call is certain and I'll let you all know the outcome.

Regards to my employer being scammed. I work for BAe Systems and you'd think a defence giant wouldn't fall for a scam if it is one haha also been there nearly 9 years so if it's been wrong it has been that long.

Hopefully this'll all resolve itself after a call or two

It does sound like a cock up. Have you checked all your details etc and that they've gotten your name right?
                  Hope you get it sorted!

Yeah I've not had chance to go over it again since I first read it. The only think that stood out was it seemed very casual. Everything else lined up with other letters I've had from them

I think 1000L is a temporary tax code. If you've had it for 9 years you should be due a substantial refund!

No 1000L was the new code in April to reflect the new tax free allowance being bumped to ?10,000 from ?9,400 or whatever it was.

Shame, I was looking for a silver lining for you. A refund could quickly turn into a few boxes of lovelies!

Haha not had one of those emails in quite sometime. I'm itching to send some money to a Nigerian prince to claim the inheritance I never knew I was entitled too!
