  • The perks of being a father.

Well it 11pm and I just got home from work..... Sadly my three year old has ripped the grill of one of my speakers and stuck his finger so far into the tweeter that it's fooked.

Im absolutely gutted, they were my pride and joy. Before my kids were born I went through literally dozens of speakers to find exactly what I wanted and what suited me and finally I found some that were exactly what I wanted.

Well they are no more and a quick look on google and KEF's website confirms that the tweeter unit is no longer in production, being a father of two means that my days of spending large amounts of money on audio gear is long behind me..... Looks like the music just went out of my life.

I know this is going to sound sad and unmanly, but I could quite literally sit here and cry.

I am sure you can find a replacement unit, try cpc or ebay pal.

Nope, its a very specific design. KEF use a Uni Q system where the tweeter sits within the Mid unit. KEF are the only people who make these units and this specific one is no longer made and is out of stock at the specialist dealers I have checked.

Lemme call around here in Toronto shoppes, Marc. We have so many old music stores and I can see what I can dig up.

I looked all over to find 1990s ibanez pickups and were able to find them in a small store here.

Thanks Jezza, the part is - KEF SP1570X (SP1542X) Tweeter.

The absolute crazy thing is that if the part is available it should be extremely cheap, it's just sourcing the bloody thing.

Educate me, Marc. Only those numbers are good?

              What about the IQ30?

Allegedly you can cut part of the IQ30 unit away to make it fit.... I'm sceptical.

If you had something with a normal IQ, maybe then it'd work!

Marc, put a picture up of the actual damage please. I ha a similar issue a long while back and managed to pull the tweeter back into a useable shape by using some very sticky tape. Worth a shot unless there is an physical tear.

What a shame. Will have a look also when I get the chance.
if you replace the part you need, any chance of putting the speakers up high on the wall?

I was gonna say that if you change one to a different you would have to change both. If this doesn't end well let me know. No promises but my dad could well have something decent he no longer needs.
