  • Dilemma of changing ISP

It has reached the point where I need to change my service providor, from the looks of it there are only two choices, Virgin fibre or BT Infinity.

Are they both the same or is one better?

9/10 BT Infinity customers would recommend it apparently and so would I. if you need speed best to check who gives you the fastest. For reliability all I can say is that I've always had great service from BT but I do live in an urban area.

      Thanks PeeJay

Just to add, maximum speed can be had from both providers, so 152mb Virgin and 79mb BT.

I can't make my mind up though, maybe flip a coin?

I would go with virgin normally faster and better support if needed.

I have virgin, pay for 50 get 35 which apparently is pretty good for my road. I've had issues with their customer service so unless you're getting phone and TV too I'd give infinity a try. My mate reckons its good.

Sean Will get you a good deal On virgin so I would go with them personally. My Mum changed to BT infinity 6 months ago and the down time is horrendous. I stayed with her for a weekend recently and I had over 50 drop outs in one day.

Their service has been shocking for her also, they won't make any effort to sort it.

I have been veering towards Virgin, my other dilemma is I currently have Sky for TV, I could be tempted to dump them and go with Virgin for TV as well but the packages work out no cheaper than taking Virgin Broadband and Phone and keeping Sky (also means we don't have quickly watch all the box sets/recordings we have on our HD box)

And you'll lose some of the Sky channels like Sky Atlantic

I'm fairly confident that the package deal Sean can get for Virgin Will be unbeatable for price.

I had Sky fibre at last place and BT fibre at new. Both had brilliant uptime and speeds. Only went with BT in new place due to free BT Sport...

Sky fibre would have been a no brainer for me but it isn't available in this area yet

I'd be interested to see the details as ours wend down to ?45 month recently and we were pretty pleased with that but out TV is the small package now whilst the internet is up to 50.

Tommy and dave pm'd you lads.

As for my pick i would always go for virgin for internet and thats not being biased. Main points all fibre internet sky, bt, talk talk etc is powered by virgins network what that means is we sell our network to them so they can piggy back onto it to get faster speeds on theres all about money.

But the thing with virgin its all fibre and once it hits the node it then gets converted from light to digital frequency to be sent down copper cable. Where as with bt you still have to run it through a phone line causing issues like line attenuation which means you will still have reduced speed if you are from a exchange.

                              Phew that was a mouthful.

As for modems virgins superhub 2 and bt's new home hub are roughly the same both offer performance through there 5ghz wireless i have tested this on my iphone 5 and on a 100mb bbi i was getting 88mb wireless which as you no is a great speed.

                              So theres my 2p's worth
