Listened to a bit of Vai found him good and a bit of Satriana but never got caught by both. I'm not that big a fan of fret wankers but Gilbert and his unusual techniques really captures me

Also, yupp: Fret Wankers describes them perfectly. i hate Vai for that reason.
Satriani is a tad different as he is very experimental. Gets a good sound out of his axes. just check out 'Crowd Chant'; it's a very experimental sound which i recommend to some people as finger exercises (back when i taught guitar).

Also, i was always eyeing a Satriani style Ibanez. Ibanez being my favourite guitar maker has some beautiful JS custom ones... but imagine the cigars i could buy for a $2500 guitar........

You're also so rigid in your listening tastes. I've got 12,000 songs in my iTunes library and just play the whole bloody lot on shuffle. It does mean I have to occasionally skip a Christmas or Disney song but hey ho, such is life.
