Ebay rant

Pissed off. Last month I treated myself to a second hand 60ct cube humi. It was was the yellow equivalent to my current black one. Long story short I paid, ?30 for it, an absolute bargain as it came with a siglo vi!

Needless to say it never showed. The seller kept in regular contact and I gave him the benefit of the doubt and I waited over a week. Having paid ?15 on postage I was surprised to find out the guy didn't use recorded delivery. Anyhoo, a refund was made.

Fast forward to tonight, my spider senses were tingling so after searching for the usual stuff on eBay I swung by this guy's recent feedback and low and behold he relisted the humi two weeks ago and it sold for ?50 and the buyer has left feedback saying it arrived very promptly. Utter scumbag.

I have tried to think of all the things that could have potentially happened for the humi to return to him but all I can think is that it sold for too cheap so he made up some bullshit so he could relist and potentially sell for more.

Yeah I've seen this happen before, very dirty tactic for sure. Don't be too down though mate, 60ct's are nearly useless anyways! You'll run out of space in a matter of weeks if not days, I bought a 100 count only last month and will be struggling to fit more sticks in soon.

In a similar vein, if someone is selling on ebay and near the end of the auction it's not going for enough can the seller just pull it at the last moment?

Sure I had that happen on a few lighters I was bidding on.

I don't think they can close it within 24 hours or something like that don't hold me to it though.

The cynic in me had a thought about the lighter I bought the other week. Wasn't working when I got it and when I said this to the seller they refunded me instantly. Great!

Anyway few days later I thought oh I can reclaim the value of the lighter of the Royal Mail to actual pay for it's repair/replacement then struck me that's exactly what the seller could have done.

That is almost definitely what happened. I also have had bargains not show up due to them selling too cheap! Its due to tight people not wanting to pay the extra ?1 or two for a reserve price listing. IMO these fuckers should be banned from eBay who should have a zero tolerance policy. eBay's far from perfect, they often get decisions wrong in cases and there is no consistency. They also charge way to much for their final value fees. I used to love buying and selling on eBay but now I've stopped selling almost completely and slowed down on buying. Over the years I've probably spent tens of thousands on eBay stuff if you include watches and I've sold a similar amount and I've stopped altogether now because they don't protect buyers and sellers properly. I think your case is a perfect example of people breaking the rules and getting away with it. eBay sucks. I used to love trading watches and now I don't do it due to the risk involved.

Lighters are restricted goods for sending via Royal Mail so the seller won't have much luck claiming for any repairs.
