  • Phew!

I was browsing in Harrods earlier and popped into the JJ Fox room. Good god the prices!
I never buy in the UK but still gave me a big shock!

Seems rather small considering the potential for a large salon with smoking room.

Harrods cigar prices are most definitely the highest in the UK. I have been there a few times recently, just looking, didn't seem particularly busy, wonder why.

The one and only time I have bought cigars from Harrods, they put them into a zip lock bag and sprayed distilled water directly onto the sticks in the bag... It was before my time here so I didn't bat an eyelid, Now I would be thinking WTF?

They do that at St James's Street as well, although they put the sticks into a little box first - I have a small collection of the boxes and bags!

They must have forgotten to put them into the boxes!

you're up early, Sean.... real early. what calls?

but hmmmm... keep in mind gents, that some people rinse their cigars under tap water prior to lighting sometimes. never understood why. but again, my first rule of cigars is that there are no rules.
i guess it honestly can't be as damaging as it can be if they continue to spray the distilled water

I'm up this early every morning - a consequence of having to commute for 90 minutes each way!

Jebus Christie! do you at least take the train so you can dose off and what not?
i find that early morning wake up times are remedied by tired posting on this forum... very helpful to wake myself up. especially if Marc is raising hell about a particular subject

just because one person does something, doesn't mean it will work for all!!

Just going to toss that disclaimer there...

My local shop has the little slide boxes and seals them in bags but he doesn't spray them. That's shave and Coster and their cigars are superbly stored in his walk in humi so sealing the bag should be fine I guess. Mail order may be different.

I don't normally snooze on the train, I've got a 20 minute walk to the station so am normally fully awake by the time I get there.

If I'm lucky enough to be promoted again I'll be given a work smart phone, so at that point I'll be working on my way into and from work! Still better than having to stay late to catch up on emails though

I'm sure spraying them doesn't do any harm, obviously JJF have the walk in humidor as well and I'm sure they know enough about cigars not to damage them, it just seems strange that they sprayed water directly onto a cigar for VTG.

If I remember correctly I think the first time I went there they said that spraying the distilled water will keep the cigar properly humidified for about a month

I can't figure out if your making that up or it really happens..... I'm still half asleep.

Nope. Not making this up. Keeps them at 80%, the rinses before lightin up. I tried finding a picture but can't for the life of me remember where it went.
(hope you mean the water rinse and NOT the rectal probe)

                            I'm half asleep, too!

Yeah, a month is what I was told at the time. I can see how spraying could help if the cigars are protected in a box... But I'm still dubious about directly spraying sticks.

Perhaps one of our cigar shop owner/worker members can pipe up on the matter? Possibly they have received training relating to the practice.
