  • XVI Habanos Festival (link to my pictures)

For those of you with Facebook, this link is to the pictures I posted there (quite a lot of pictures). Most of these have descriptions and tags of who the people are. Note that Andrew Ryan is Ryan on this forum and I believe Yiorgos is also a member. These are from Monday, Feb. 24th thru Friday, Feb. 18th.

Here is a link to the same photos on Picasa but have not gotten around to adding names and descriptions yet.

https://picasaweb.google.com/1102441...CigarGroup2014 (you can just hit slideshow and they'll go by at 3 seconds each.

My Facebook description of the album:
I'm posting these photos of our trip to Havana, Cuba. These are the photos of us with our cigar friends attending different events held during the week for the 16th Habano Festival. I cannot say enough to our friends from Ireland and England for their hospitality. I'm sorry, I don't have words to say that can express how much Chris I appreciate their friendship.

I especially want to thank Robert Fox and Stuart Fox for everything they did to arrange us to be able to attend all the events as if we were part of their organization. Again, words can't explain our feelings toward you two. More wonderful people don't exist. And cannot thank Andrew Ryan enough for all his planning and hard work arranging that everything was done exactly as it should have been. You know how we feel about you I'm sure.

    A lot of pictures, sorry.

Hey...I was NEVER accused of being normal.

Also, please note that I DID pay for the tickets to the events, the festival is not inexpensive by any means.

I know I am lucky. I actually didn't smoke any of the show cigars. I gave my show cigars to Andy (Ryan here) and Dara (a friend in Ireland) as I'm really not an aficionado so they would be wasted on me. We were thrown more cigars than I could smoke as it was at all the events so I was very happy. Being used to only NC cigars I'm not one whose review you would want to consider.

I did ask someone about a 72 ring gauge cigar I heard was being made but nobody knew what I was talking about. Sorry, I'm sure Ryan will write a review when he returns. The entire London and Irish crew leave this afternoon for their overnight flights.

Well, I now know what you're talking about. No, I didn't see one but I'm sure the Fox's crew did because they were at the Trinidad dinner. I just saw that David Savona of Cigar Aficionado wrote on his blog about the cigar you're talking about. It's a 58 ring gauge, which to me isn't that big since my daily smoke is a 60 ring gauge. Here's a link to his write-up.

If there was any doubt about the fat cigar trend spreading around the world, it was erased last night here in Havana at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. Around 10 p.m., as the band played and the waiters poured a bit more of the 2010 Chateau d'Esclans, a troupe of gorgeous models bearing wooden trays emerged from the back, handing each seated guest a fat, dark cigar the size of a roll of quarters. | Cigar Aficionado

Great pictures Rick, lovely spending time with you and Chris as always.
Great trip this year, met some great people, old and new friends. At this point, for me, the cigars we get there are merely a bonus.
I'm still getting over that flu that was going around the end of the week, I hope you didn't get that.
                            Talk to you soon.
