We have power & lights. It's a led ribbon light, which, to be fair gives off plenty of light for the shack

Been attacking the latest Biltong batch today!

To slice it, I use another little something I've made! It's a traditional Biltong cutter made again from some wood offcuts from the garage and an old wallpaper scraper which I turned into the blade! Sharp enough to shave with!

The only trouble with this stuff is it's so bloody moorish! Can't stop myself when I start munching!

You'll need to source a light bulb which gives out a bit of heat so no cree chips here.
If the box is small enough you can skip the fan....even if the box is quite large you may not need the fan 24/7 as drying too fast isn't ideal....biggest tip is be careful with the salting time....an hour covered in rock salt then wash the excess off is pleanty, if not the final product will be to salty. Oh and DON'T skimp and use cheap ground cooking salt unless you massively cut the salting time (a tip learnt the hard way).

Why not use readily available halogen bulbs? They radiate more heat than an equivalent regular incandescent filament bulb so a 25-30w halogen should havens similar ambient temperature. You could even use a 12v car halogen and a 12v fan for extraction.... The box could be an Off the grid biltong box! I think I Will run mine Off a 12v lead acid battery.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14
