That's a point, maybe we could make Biltong by putting the meat in a tub with all of our Boveda packs that need recharging [emoji38]

That would work....I run the fan in mine off an old car battery, mostly because I'm too cheap to buy the inverter to run the computer fan.

Why not use readily available halogen bulbs? They radiate more heat than an equivalent regular incandescent filament bulb so a 25-30w halogen should havens similar ambient temperature. You could even use a 12v car halogen and a 12v fan for extraction.... The box could be an Off the grid biltong box! I think I Will run mine Off a 12v lead acid battery.

I haven't but when I get a bit more time I could be tempted....Black forest ham also sounds nice but would involve me buying an electric slicer.

I've heard that special bulbs like oven ones etc are exempt so maybe am easier to source option. Not tried this however.

If the box is small enough you can skip the fan....even if the box is quite large you may not need the fan 24/7 as drying too fast isn't ideal....biggest tip is be careful with the salting time....an hour covered in rock salt then wash the excess off is pleanty, if not the final product will be to salty. Oh and DON'T skimp and use cheap ground cooking salt unless you massively cut the salting time (a tip learnt the hard way).
