            • Very impressive stuff. Does anyone else think is more than mere coincidence that we seem to buck the national average for guys into cooking/baking on this forum (myself included)?

                • Jack rather helpfully informed us at 6pm today that he has to take a home-made musical instrument to school on Tuesday.

In true Competitive Dad fashion I decided that he's not taking a paper-wrapped comb or a bottle of rice in with him so decided that we should make a cigar box guitar.

Unfortunately I don't have a treasure trove of tools or supplies but after a root around found an oak spindle for the neck (which took fecking ages to trim using a tenon saw) to fit the H Upmann Half Corona box (which is the only box I have deeper than the 4cm thickness of the spindle).

A call to a guitarist friend means that I'll have a set of strings tomorrow, however I need to find something to use as a bridge and tuning keys.

I'm already beginning to realise that I've bitten off more than I can chew [emoji90]

I remember reading a thread about a guy trying to sell these on here, there might be some info in there for you?

                        • There's an amazing website makezine.com with step by step guides.

The glowing potato cannon or led concrete garden table may be next [emoji16]

                          • Got there in the end!

It's ghetto as anything and the hardest part was getting tension on the strings without tuning keys.

This was resolved by me practically swinging off the thing while gripping the strings with pliers as my Wife screwed a metal plate to the end of the neck over the strings [emoji36]

Huge sense of relief now and basking in my achievement while sipping a glass of bourbon.

                              • Beautiful mate and that link you shared says something like a 2 for one subscription. Couldn't quite decipher if it meant you already had to have one then nominate someone for the freebie. If you interested could be something we go halves on? If I have understood the offer correctly that it is.

A few more pics from different angles of the guitar would be great once you have had your well deserved bourbon that is
