  • Stupid question; tubed cigars?

Can cigars that come in a sealed metal tube last outside of a humidor? Being completely isolated I wonder if it keeps moisture in and also wonder how humidity would get inside if kept in a humidor. Thanks

Well, perhaps a bit longer than one that's not in a tube, but I wouldn't leave them out for very long. They will dry out inside the tube.

Regarding tubes cigars inside the humidor, they won't dry out whether the cap is on or off. However, some folks take the cap off before they put them in the humidor.

Depends where you live. I'm 5 klicks from a giant body of water so even a 3 month forgotten one isn't harmful. But if you're in a place like Syria or Soudan, then you're in trouble! It all depends on your local area's humidity average and everything.

This is to prevent mould build up. FYI

Sorry this isn't correct...mould spores are everywhere & everything else is dependant on the seal of the tube and the temperature it is kept at more than anything else... the same as with your humidor..if it's kept at a temp of 65 & is sealed properly you renew the fluid content far less frequently than you would with a poor seal..
A well sealed tubed cigar kept in a cool temperature stable place will be OK for months even years..

I smoked a ryj short chrchill that had not been in a humi for some time. It was rather dry and harsh but I was pissed and didn't care that much!

Well, I think that applies to all puros, se?or butternutz, whether inside a tube or not. The higher the outside humidity, the longer your sticks will last, I suppose; unless the AC is on. Then you may have a bit of a problem.

So let's be honest about the terrific tubo. Mi pappy, Pappy
Coro once told me that the tube was started in the days of yore as a marketing ploy...and still is today. But so what? I still enjoy receiving a stick-in-a-tube and find them to be a perfect vessel for transporting, especially if you are on the go and simply want to pop one or two in your pocket without the fuss or muss of a case, or worse yet - A Herf-A-Dor!!!

But what the fudge do I know. After all, I'm just a simple Mexicant who likes to get around; even to the frozen tundra of the great land to the North
... where my puros once froze to the inside of my tubos!

Methinks the tubes are a tad better because of their small strip of cedar (which i use to light cigars btw, awesome for robustos! ) that retains humidity as well. Lady in the aeroport in cuba told me they can last 2 years in the tubes.. never really wanted to see if that's true (maybe i'll do it with a cheap one one day...... ). marketing? yea, they kinda are. there's a reason why the siglos tubos don't come in boxes of 25 anymore! but i agree with what you say, my RYJ shorties still work as a cryogenic chambre for all my robustos when on the go.

And hmmmm, i thought that was america (usa) first. but if it's canada, give me a ring sometime.. it'll be a good excuse to fire up one of my reservas or other LEs for the occasion

Sure, the lady trying to sell you something said they would last up to two years! Believe me (and others on the forum, no doubt), they ain't gonna' last two years left alone in a tube outside of a humidor - unless it's in a humid climate, but those place generally tend to be too hot, so scratch that. Of course, if you completely sealed the tube in plastic and maintained a proper temperature...well, maybe.

An interesting fun fact: For some reason (and don't ask me why), Catalina Coro collects the empty tubos.

BTW, the pic you saw WAS taken somewhere in the USA, but it doesn't mean a Coro or two haven't been spotted wondering around in the Northern Tundra before.

you could always do that.. byut then you're running into "what if" territory. i mean who would spend THAT much time on that? so much repeated effort for no end result in sight? isn't that the definition of "insanity?"
and you know what, methinks i have a few 2 year old forgotten guantanamera cristales tubos lying under some piles of unwore clothes and papers in my closet or bedroom.. i'd hope so actually

Well, we all like shiny things. I'm no exception. if i ever were to get a siglo II here, i'd still buy the tubos version if they had it (despite it being an extra $3 AND i have a million Siglo tubos lying around here). just primal instinct i guess..... despite all of us being Gentlemen, we can't escape the fact that we're all "men."
and despite her being a lady, she's still a la- ah, i got nothing..

but alright, just tell em not to buy any here. they might be great and assured quality but they're also twice the prices of cuban standard..

I just got a selection of tubed cigars from milan and half of them had mold on them . I have brushed the mold off and removed from tubes. They all came from a electronic humi in a reputable shop.
