What a day of cricket.
Right, for the real point of analysis - not the poor batting, Siddle's performance, or the English attack's brilliant attempt to claw something back in the last session...
But why, WHY, WHY!!!??? Why did Cook, having won the toss, decide to bat!!!??? It's the only day of the test match which is forecast to be cloudy, and in Anderson they have one of (if not the) most potent swing bowler in the world. Surely you take the opportunity to make as much as possible out of the most successful bowler in Test cricket at Trent Bridge? So: bowler friendly conditions, best bowler in the world in those conditions, relatively unsettled Australian top-order, England with a relatively inexperienced opener (let him get into the game a bit by fielding - lose some of the nerves), and you can't even say that batting last will be hell as the Aussies have picked a spinner with as much first class experience as I have!

I can totally see your point, I nearly spat my tea out this morning when I heard England had won the toss and chose to bat. Trent Bridge is known for swing bowling. The only reason I can think that they chose to bat was so the Aussies (may) have to bat last, and with the strip so dry its going to break up and crack - good news for Swann, and I wouldn't want to face the other three quickies (with a full suit of armour on) on a surface like that.
