A friend of mine has also had some fraudulent credit card action originating in switzerland... she has never bought anything from Switzerland and isn't a cigar smoker.... I think this may all be coincidence, you could always buy from a UK store!Last edited by Drewmidorn; 19-01-2010, 03:29 AM.

I'm a tad worried having just placed an order at this site. As I went through the checkout procedure (I used a VISA debit card issued by First Direct), a message popped up telling me that although this site was encrypted, my card details would be sent over the internet un-encryped and did I want to continue... I pressed yes.
Should I be worried?
There was a second level of protection it offered me (can't remember the exact name) where they ask you for passwords when using your card online for exatra security - but I stupidly declined to fill in some details. Is there a way I can now fill in this card authorization thingy online to help protect me from fraudsters?

Assumptions and Advice for all on-line purchasing:
Assumptions:
1. Vulnerabilities, budgets, inherent technology issues and human factors mean fraud will keep happening in different forms
2. Most of us will be a victim at some point
3. On-line ordering is too convenient to give up
Advice:
1. Use one credit card for all your on-line purchasing
2. Do not have this on your main bank account
3. Set a low limit to minimise your exposure
4. Go with a card provider that provides comprehensive on-line fraud protection

MasterCard offers an extra level of security called securecode, Its a hassle, but I signed up and always use it, good points the others m66 especially using only one card online, if nothing else in makes it easy to check them all at the end of the month.. could look a bit freighting all your cigar purchases on one statement!.... harder to hide it from the general also..

Monkey66 is certainly right, we'll all get hit at some time or another - I've had it done in the past and Im sure it'll happen again...
But like ACMCC says no matter how much hassle these extra securecode pages are they have to be worth it in the long run (anything to try and stop these bastards using our money to purchase things they want...!!!).

Next time you purchase using the card you'll be asked again to fill in the details if you want to.
Incidentally, I went onto my First Direct banking site and registered the Verified by Visa functionality on this card.
I have been contacted numerous times by my bank and credit card companies offering me policies to cover myself for idneity theft and fraud. I've always declined. Surely they HAVE to reinburse you for any fraudulant activity on account regardless of whether you have paid for special fraud protection?

When I suggested a card that covers on-line fraud I wasn't suggesting that you should pay extra for this feature, just check they will cover to the limit of the card.
If you set the limit on the card to ?500 then you can never have a higher exposure than ?500. Depends how much you are spending a month on-line.Originally posted by Simon BolivarLittle medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these

Since I made the tranasacttion on the Swiss site, I have had an international transaction for ?19.90 on my visa debit card. It says 'Select E Products' and all First Direct are able to tell me is that it was international and came under the catogory of 'clothing and apparel'
I have racked my brain trying to think of what this transaction could be but I honestly can't remember ever making a purchase online for this amount.
Does this sound like it could be fraudulant use of my card, based on other peoples experiences of this happening after visiting this site?
If I want to take it further, they can revert the transaction and the retailer has 60 days to challenge it.... I am hesitating because I know there is a chance it is legit and I have just forgotten about it!
