I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

      The Dawg.

Elton John (piano, vox) and Ray Cooper (percussion).

They need to play live together again.

        And hey presto! They are!

First gigs just announced in the south of France...

Here they are in Russia in 1979.

If you can hear the piano, I love to play percussively just like that and like very much to be a blues whore by slipping around the black notes.

Reg is underrated. He is a great piano player.

          Posting this randomly.
          I absolutely love Simple Minds.
          Especially Mel Gaynor's brilliant drumming.
I think they are still gigging.

            Thunder

Although they have not technically split up until July I shall live in hope that one day they might reform for one gig at least.
I shall see them for the last time July.
One of the most underrated british rock bands to span the last 20 years

This ones an oldie from 1992 and his voice is still the same now!

DAWWWG!!! We seem to share the same tastes!! I was listening this last night!!!!

Fish on his own is execellent and the Fish-less Marillion are none too shabby but the two together were legendary. Fish is a modern day Burns IMO. What a word-smith

MC would be in my top 10 albums. Still perfect

Mountain is one of those rare bands in the past thirty years that can be credited with forging a style and sound that would for ever change the face of Rock music. The innovative studio and live music of Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi, Corky Laing and Steve Knight, Mountain, is one of those elite examples. The combination of Leslie's unique tone and feel, Felix's studio production skills,Corky's powerful double bass drumming and Steve's keyboard textures, produced someof the best and memorable rock tunes ever, Mississippi Queen, Nantucket Sleighride, Theme From an Imaginary Western, Yasgur's Farm, Never In My Life, Blood of the Sun, Dreams of Milk and Honey, all stand the test of time and are forever etched in rock history. These songs came from the classic rock albums, Leslie West-Mountain, Mountain-Climbing! and Nantucket Sleighride.Mountain only lasted two and half years but that's all it took to create their permanent legacy ...

Mountain was born out of the sixties music explosion. Leslie came from The Vagrants,an East Coast power house band that was making a name for themselves.Corky came from the band Energy that was produced by Felix Pappalardi. Felix had extensive producing credits before Mountain formed in 1969.He was a classically trained musician who studied conducting and music arranging in college. His skills eventually lead him to Mountain. He produced Cream's Disreali Gears and worked with many other prominent artists from the Greenwich Village folk scene. Steve Knight was brought in by Felix because of prior musical affliations. Eventually this small web of the music scene brought these four guys together. They debuted at the Fillmore in 1969 and went on to play at the granddaddy of all music festivals Woodstock. They established themselves as one of the premiere rock bands of their time. The band eventualy called it quits in 1972.

Mountain was one of those magical music collaborations that can't be duplicated. Just like Cream, the Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience,The Rolling Stones,or any great band it's a once in a lifetime twist of fate that brings individuals together to make their mark on history of music. In their short musical life they produced three gold albums and created one of the most recognized rock tunes "Mississippi Queen". The most enduring legacy any band can hope to achieve is to have others generations of musicians aspire to copy them. Leslie West's guitar playing did that for many guitarists. He had that rare gift to have his own tone and touch that helped define the Mountain sound. Whether you love or hate them ,you can't deny them their place in rock music.

                  Millie Vanillie

Then I guess I'd like to thrash my mullet to these bands as well:

                  Ratt

                  Dio

                  Black Sabbath

                  Warrant

                  Queensryche

TJCoro and the Heavy Steel Senior Senors
Business in the front. Party in the back.
                  UKCF is now mobile friendly!

The Mullet Dog is so on fleek!

They can't reunite Bryan, it would destroy everything that they were !
Fav band of all time, its a shame how it ended, but it had to end like that in order for all those shite bands to RIP em off and completely destroy the musical integrity and sound they rear'd so lovingly for the next two decades.
                    Rock n Roll.
                    PS
you prob know this Bry but JS has an art gallery he showcasts every now and again in london, I keep meaning to go down when its on, I think he styles a lot of his work on Jackson Pollock, very abstract, good though.

I think you have it right on the nose Mr Moore.

This is an achedemic exercise, I can't think of a single band which has reformed and been anything but a greatest hits band.

Great bands should be remembered for what they where in their pomp. (Obviously with the notable exception of the Jayhawks)

Mr Moore - I didn't know that! When you think of the 'standard' of The Stone Roses compared to the 'standard' of what comes through these days, there's no comparison.

Take Coldplay. (Sorry, but this is the group usually dissected by musos).
Very, very nice - but it's like being wrapped in a big warm towel all the time.
                        Is that all we want?

Boss - I haven't heard of that group but they are good!
Not what I usually like, but it's all good, and he is a great singer in that ilk.

Off to the garage with a knackered car - but here's a group I adore. Saw them live in the 80s. (Mike Scott - singer/writer - is a Bolan nut. Things come around).

Thy use a Yamaha stage piano (electric) better than Keane lol.

Nic - You're right. Reforming is never the same.

I love music threads on here. Well done Wing!

Hey Brian, you've seen some great groups. I love the Waterboys - The whole of the moon.

Playing it now, where would we be without You Tube.

I've got one more to chuck in, two years at the fantastic Cropredy festival we saw the remaining members of the "Leige and Leif" Fairport Convention play. As we walked in to the field first thing in the morning they were just finishing the sound check, Richard Thompson's guitar ringing out over the field on a beautiful August morning. Another hair raising moment.

Stevie it seems we certainly have similiar musical tastes. All your comments about Fish are spot on I love his lyrics.

He brought a couple of solo ablums out when he firts left marillion i did buy one but over the years mislaid it.

Despite my complete devoution to all things english, my surname is tomson and my mothers maiden name was grant. So i'm afraid quite a bit o'celt in me.
