Ok...I may be in trouble when the wife gets home. Have just taken apart every single appliance and piece of kitchen equipment trying to find something that looks like those things in the frigging picture!

      Damn you monkey!

OK, no-one quite nailed it so I will explain.

The dryer function of our washer dryer was causing steam to come out of the top of the machine. I have repaired several elements of this machine already over the last few years (the heater element, door handle and thermostat come to mind) so I have come to know it well (even though I know nothing about washer/dryers apart from what I have learned from the Internet).

There was steam coming out the top when the dryer was running. After some time on the net I discovered how the dryer works. A closed-loop heated air circulation with a condensing function enabled by dripping cold water in the condensing chamber, cooling down the steam and then pumping out. Pretty cheap and nasty by engineering standards but I guess it gets the job done. I could see there was no water dripping so I removed the pipes and checked they were clear. I then followed the pipe back to the 3-way cold water inlet valve pictured. I tested the AC current on the solenoid and this was present (when the dryer was running) but no water from the valve. Replaced it, ran and checked for leaks, all good so boxed it up.
