Just sounds like you are playing the company tune to me. No offense intended. But, every mention of anything that would take business away from the UK distributors is pooh poohed or rubbished.

If by company tune you are referring to the rules of this forum you are correct, if you mean some kind of association with the UK cigar industry you are simply deluded.

No offence taken. No one here care where or how you buy your cigars. Just that any you discuss here are duty paid in the UK or within duty-free allowances. Since you know this is the rules of this forum why do you keep brining it up at every opportunity. This rule is not going to change, you accepted the rules when you joined here. Is there anything you don't understand?

BTW. I am going to move this discussion regarding your idea of a buying collective to a new thread so they do not distract this thread any further.

Unless the Cuban government have a restriction on how many cigars you can bring back with you, what is to stop you flying there filling up your suitcase and getting the plane back, then going through the red channel at customs?.

As an individual, there is no restriction on the number of cigars you can get out as long as you have receipts for them. There are individuals who get shipping containers out of Cuba.
You would be paying a lot more than H&F per cigar though. Once you add on UK duty, you would have a hard time competing.

The news on the case mentioned above implied that if someone was to do this in volume then UK CC prices would have to come down.

Not to throw a Monkey wrench into the discussion, but I have visited a few vendors in the Caribbean who visit the ISOM in their personal water craft, stock up on puros, and bring the back for re-sale.

Now, I have no idea if they have proper authority (I suspect they do), but I do know they are not certified LCdH.

But then again, they are not the UK subject to all those rules and regulations.

As an aside to this I recently brought back a box of Partagas SD No4's over and above my allowance, i paid in total ?30 in duty and Vat, even with this add on they worked out a little over half what I am asked to pay in the UK.

As for Luxury items nah, that does not rub either if they are such a luxury how come they are so cheap elsewhere?

Don't be afraid of over stepping your allowance a little. I came through the red with a little too much rum. The guy seemed a little annoyed at having to stand up to tell me that the duty due was too little to charge. But then again I wasn't about to risk 100 cigars for smuggling a half bottle of rum.

I'm saying that bring your allowance and a few extra then declare.... to be told not to worry. I'd not try to smuggle as I believe that if you smuggle some stuff then all your dutyable goods may be seized (I may be wrong though)

It's nothing to do with winning, more about getting better value for your money, and staying within the Law, lets face it H&F have the monopoly on Cuban imports and they are not going to do a Tesco on it are they, .

This forum prides itself on providing info for cigars smokers new and old, just doing my bit.

I've been reading this thread with interest. I would be really intrigued to understand the mechanics of how this could be made to work. At a really basic level it's going to require some contacts with HSA, them selling you the sticks to export, working your way around what I expect is a minefield of Cuban bureaucracy, arranging air/sea freight. I expect that paying all the import excise duties this end would be the easy bit.

If anyone wants to do it and needs a hand with air freight, just shout.
