By drilling a hole through the center and applying a chamfer to the outside, works quite well with brass, stainless tend to be a bit soft to get a lasting edge plus it does not machine down to such a fine edge, next time i make some i am going to get some Silver steel and case harden the cutting edge for longer life.

My main hobby is making money. I'm not really interested in any hobby that doesn't bring in a few bob. I'm into buying and reselling anything that has consistent market value and often goes up in price. Sometimes I have to hold onto an item for awhile (like a few years). So, I buy and sell silver and gold (coins and scrap), copper and lead, guns, books, hard to find pipes that have high demand, to name a few. One of my best and easiest trades was a guy that made penny whistles for professional players. His work was in such high demand that there was a three year waiting list, and I ordered a whole set. The set cost a bit over a grand, and Patrick (the maker) didn't require payment until the work was done. I got the whistles after four years of waiting, and quickly resold them all for over 3 grand to buyers that didn't want to wait four years to get one!

This hobby is pretty involved and time consuming to find the best deals, requiring research and a sharp eye for what items have profit potential, but it sure is fun!

Surely the value of a penny whistle is obvious even to a layman.

By the way that's a joke. I think the "penny" is to do with what you'd pay to someone playing a tin whistle.

                        Yeah, I get it!

One wouldn't think that a whistle is worth a whole lot...but they'de be wrong! Here is Patrick in his workshop:

Patrick explains the beginning process of making the shaft of a whistle.

When a flutest such as Joanie Madden (who endorses O'Riordan whistles) plays for booked out audiences, would-be musicians wait a long time to get one of his whistles. Crazy isn't it?

What Puff has failed to tell us is that he first of all drinks large quantities of whisky to numb his senses, then runs through the countryside in only his underpants and a cigar screaming, "Come on you bastards!"
