  • Another computer problemo

I've lost sound on some of my applications/programmes, eg, BBCi player, youtube, etc.
Funny thing is my movies and games etc still have sound !
I've got a feeling it may off been something to do with when I downloaded Itunes last week, at first itunes was not working properly and I fiddled a bit.
I've asked the question on google and the replies all seem to point to downloading my sound driver again through my laptop maker website, I've done that but after I've d/loaded driver I don't know what to do next, it just opens a load of diff folders, aagghhh.

    Anyone know whats wrong ?

My laptop is an Acer Travelmate 5730

Is it only stuff inside a web browser? Might be worthwhile trying to reinstall Flash?
Are you running Vista or XP?

I found the driver (assuming you are running XP). Extract the file onto your desktop or somewhere, and click setup in the main folder. Reboot once it's all run.
Let us know if that helps.

Yes Dave is quite right I would reinstall flash player. If the drivers for the sound card needed to be reinstalled then you wouldnt hear any sound at all.

I would remove it first from start> control panel > programs and features (if vista) (if XP then it's called add/remove programs) its listed as flash player and plugins. there may be a couple.
          Then
          Reboot

          Then goto

          and following instructions.
          Thne reboot again

if that doesnt work, txt me I'll call and talk you through some other stuff

The laptop cam does not open anymore either, Jesus, why does this always happen to me !
And you know the worst of it as well is I've gone and bloody fiddled with things yesterday when I don't know what I'm doing.
I made the traffic cone VLC a default programme for everything I think, not even sure how I did it, along with other little things I messed with.
If I was not completely peeved off it would be funny.

            I give in

You know I can't look at this bloody laptop without wanting to roundhouse it through the effin window.

You might be able to turn on the webcam with the Fn key and F5 or F6? There should be a picture by it (usually in blue) that looks like a webcam.

To solve the VLC issue, in XP, right-click and choose 'Open with...' then check the check box down the bottom 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' and click what program you want it to open with. I have no idea for Vista sorry.

Have you tried to go back to a previous restore point before all this happened?

                    Using a Proxy Server.

                    Hello muchachos.

Does anyone know about "proxy servers?" Since I am out of my beloved state of mind. They said it is because my computer think I am still in mexico, when actually I am in the Blissful state of mind, Grand Cayman.

I would post this on the "ask TJ" thread, but he unavailable at the moment.

Google 'free anonymous proxy server' and you should get a selection to use. You'll get a page where you can enter the site address and the site will appear inside the proxy page. I would suggest a proxy to use but I'm in work and don't really fancy looking like I'm trying to hide things.

It will have been blocked on where you are connecting from, and a proxy lets you pretend you are somewhere else.

                            Hey TJ

A proxy server is like a server that sits in the middle between you and the site you wish to visit, It can be used for a number of reasons such as security, caching and trying to be anonymous on the web.
you can find a number of sites on the web that have free proxys just by searching "proxy server"
You will also need to update your browser settings to let it know to route through that way, Eg: in firefox its Tools> Options > Advanced tab > Network Tab > Connection Settings button.

I was thinking a web-based one like http://www.anonasurf.com would be easier to use, so you wouldn't need to adjust the browser settings. I've just tried anonasurf and it seems fine.
