  • Smoke spots in Scotland

A non smoking friend who recently stayed at 1 Devonshire Gardens, gave me the heads up about an interesting place that accomodates cigar smokers in Glasgow. Upon further research I came across the place he was talking about. http://www.gadling.com/2008/12/19/li...lasgows-bothy/

Was thinking of checking it out but the place in question is frequented by the likes of movie stars and royalty, which makes it a little intimidating. Has anyone been?

Are there any other places like this in existance North Of the Border?

Man that looks a sweet place to sit!

This is a great thread KD and something close to my heart as every time I visit a town/city, where to smoke cigars is one of my priorities (natch!)

One of the lads (Pantomimehorse?!?!) posted a link to THIS SITE and you can search by area/town/facilites etc to help find a beer-garden....none of which will be like The Bothy unfortunately

An interesting place, with prices to match e.g. a BLT sandwich, ?6.50.

        Good catch.

Good catch on this one Kdot. This place is about twenty minutes from my house and i never new this little smoking room existed.

I might check it out in a few weeks time when i am back in the UK.It looks like a nice little place to go in an afernoon for a quiet smoke (and maybe half a sandwich).

Unfortunate but not surprised. My friend who happens to be a T-Totaler said a meal for two was almost at the ton a head mark.

However would still like to check it out.

I'm midway between Dundee and Perth and to be honest I don't really like drinking in Dundee...too much gadgies out for a fight IMO and they don't have much street-cafe culture either. Perth is a much nicer place but smoking areas are very few and far between. Edinburgh's completely different especially around Rose Stree, Leith, the castle, Grassmarket etc where almost every pub has an area set outside...the problem is it's all weather dependant. A lot of the places I like actually shut down their beer-gardens in the colder weather...seems a bit mad as a lot are covered/heated!?!?!

                  Sandwiches?

I will let you know when i`m heading up Kdot and if your not busy I`ll see you in there.

Probably around 3 weeks time, and it would certainly have to be in the afternoon for me.

Do you think they would mind if i brought my own sandwiches?

Edinburgh seems the place to be...Glasgow has a vast ned-like population, even the west end, although it has some outdoor seating onto the street be prepared to slap some junkie type for their sneering...

Theres another place called Oran Mor in Glasgow, a converted church, not far from the bothy. Its known for its selection of drams and holds frequent whiskey tasting evenings. However bring a jacket for year round outdoor seating and It can get very busy at weekends

Chaps, just found this discussion as was searching the forum for anyone who has visited the Hotel Du Vin and checked out this cigar shack.

I need to visit Glasgow to visit some customers some time this week or next and I am going to book a night here as my base. If anyone fancies meeting up for a drink and a cigar one mid-week evening, that would be superb!

Let me know if anyone is up for it.

Sorry mate, would have liked to take you up on your offer and have a gander at the bothy. But apart from tomorrow morning i'm fully booked and leave the country monday night.

Embra seems to be the place as it has loads of outdoor venues. Even a crumbly place like the Pear Tree has a great yard. I'm only half an hour from Embra and Glesca so if anyone fancies meeting up of a Saturday, let me know.....

Just got back from the Hotel du Vin in Embra and I can report that ti's VERY cigar friendly. They have a beer menu, a spirits menu and a cigar menu. They also have a roofed bothy for cigaristas. I can recommend it!
