Not taken long for the French to start sticking the knife in

I've always been a skeptic at heart, recent events have done little to change that.

My History Master always said that the French had not yet forgiven us for burning Joan of Arc, and that Churchill was never more correct than in his statement about heavy crosses

Here is the Man himself, History was far from boring with him.

Perhaps one of the most interesting Singer owners in the history of the Marque, was a gentleman by the name of Merlin Minshall. Merlin, at one point in his colourful life, was a member of the Special Branch of British Naval Intelligence and interestingly enough, a colleague of Ian Flemming, inventor of the James Bond […]

As skeptical as I am about the EU and the Euro, I am more concerned about the position this govenment seems to be adopting. At the end of the day the EU is important to us and their patience will only stretch so far.

Looking at the figures we are the fourth biggest absolute contributor, so it should be them worrying about us pulling the plug rather than the other way round, can you imagine how long it would be before the ratings agencies downgraded the lot of them if we pulled out, the consequences are enormous but its all going to go wrong anyway, so the sooner the better, instead of living in a Franco/German super state we can rebuild this Great Nation of ours.

Stuff the French-German duopoly and the rest of the EU. A Draconian stance? Potentially, however I've been researching the EU "crisis" for an economics module @ university so I have a vague idea of what's going on from my own research. Economics aside, politically and morally the EU has lost all credibility from my perspective in the last four months. A few weeks ago, Standard and Poor's ratings agency downgraded 20 or so banks... coincidently, the EU "rescue" package set out by Merkel and big Nic S reduced interest points on currency transactions between the EU and US, thus upping the circulation of monetary supply... Isn't it amazing how these banks have been downgraded yet the EU policy, perfectly timed, seems to have the attributes of a bank bailout. The EU is practically a Soviet-esque state, when one partner (Cameron) isn't happy with Stalin (Merkel and Nic) standards of external regulation, some members throw their toys out of the pram. The UK banks are responsible for 30% (+/- 5%) of all UK worth yet the EU ideology wants to regulate an industry of this magnitude in Brussels, of which the likes of Croatia, arguably a useless economy, can take a slice of our pie as can France since France could use UK based investment to redistribute investments into the French economy.

Why should we pull out of the EU? There are so many reasons, including our unpopularity and the ?50m per day membership fee, that's a hell of a lot of Cuban's.

Personally I'd tell the EU to piss off. We don't need the regulation they force upon us. I think in part the ECHR (who's intent I support) has resulted in us having a namby pamby legal system and the entitlement culture we are faced with, which in turn helped catalyse the summer riots.
