  • Disaster strikes in PC land.

Just fired my PC up, or not as the case may be.

Greeted with a CMOS error, after numerous CMOS resets, stripdown, clean, and reassaemble I've conceded the mobo is dead.

My PC was a good spec for its time but is an LGA775 socket DDR2 board, they seem to be very hard to source now (for reasonable cash), so the only way to go is a new build

Ah crap, that sucks! I've been lucky and never had anything major go on me, however, I have lots of friends who have had almost everything blow in their PC.

However, look at it as a sign....It's just Gods way of offering you the perfect excuse to give to your other half, as to why you need a nice new top of the line new build

Well with sleeping on it, help from friends and persistence my PC is back up and running!

Turns out that after resetting the cmos the mobo didn't auto configure the ram settings so I needed to manually redo the memory timings and voltages in the bios, but was unable to do this as my monitor displayed a blank screen.

So I 'borrowed' an old analogue monitor from work and hooked that up .... wahey! A display ..... so into the bios, set timings and voltage, pop in one chip, reboot and all was fine, added the ram chips in one at a time and she work perfect again, to say I am relieved is an understatement.

Now is a good excuse to the wife that the ?400.00 I was going to spend on new parts could be used for some Puros

Wonder if she will buy it ......
