What Blu Rays do I need to buy?

Ok, so yesterday I told the girlfriend of my grand idea to replace our entire DVD collection, with their Blu Ray equivalents, whilse disposing of some of the crappy ones in the process *cough* all the chick flicks *cough* (I'm actually in the process of trying to convince her, that Blu Ray's were designed and released by men, to showcase films in their best setting, and therefore...the men behind the releases, refuse to release any chick flicks on Blu Ray....hopefully she never actually gets a reason to go into a store to check!)

However....typically....she can't see the point. I tried to impress her with all the technical blabble...nothing....I tried to confuse her with all the technical blabble...nothing...

My only tactic now is to wow her. So good folk, please help me to convince my better half, that this plan is a great idea. What Blu Rays do I need to purchase to have her watch, to blow her socks off?

Star Wars, Apocalypse Now, Top Gun. Bond films etc. Man films yes but essential for any collection.
Films the Mrs might like, mmm is she into art films? The Lives of Others is fantastic. Limitless is good. The Guard is really funny.

Is Star Wars any better in Bluray? I get pissed off with that franchise, I bought the VHS of each, then the boxed set, then the digitally remastered set, then the DVD, then the DVD with extra bits and better sound, then the directors cut.......sheesh, as it's old I figured Blu Ray wouldn't look that better

Another vote for Avatar, it does look amazing even if the story drags a bit.
Inception, it looks fantastic and actually has a plot!
If your into superheros then I've really enjoyed Thor and X-men: First Class on Blu-Ray recently.
Insidous is a great horror movie, very much in the classic 80s style. I looks great and carries a real poltergeist/omen vibe to it.

The Blu-Rays i own or have watched that particularly stood out are:

The Dark Knight :- Fantastic movie to begin with, but watching it in high definition is amazing. Not only is the urban scenery incredible to watch, but all the subtle things, like the little imperfections in the joker's makeup, as well as his facial scarring and greasy hair (which all compliments Heath's ground-breaking and iconic performance), and the burn wounds (lack of a better description) on Harvey Dent's face, are all really impressive.

I Am Legend :- Again, awesome movie, incredible acting on Will Smith's part. Again, the urban scenery is spectacular. Did i mention it was an awesome movie?

Avatar :- Okay, so the story is a recycled concept, but it's a great one nonetheless. Some people even say that the graphics aren't that great, but i don't know which planet they're sending that transmission from. High definition really enhances the already impressive effects. It's also a great movie to watch male or female.

The A-Team :- It's a really good action movie, with stunts and bombs all over the damn place. You tell me high definition wouldn't be mind-blowing!!!

Gamer :- One of my favourite Gerard Butler Movies; Amazingly original and intriguing concept. More urban scenery which looks fantastic. Another action movie which is greatly enhanced when shown in hi-def.

The Book Of Eli :- Unfortunately, an extremely underrated and unrecognized post-apocalyptic movie. Denzel Washington. Nuff said. If you in any way like post-apocalyptic movies/games/stories (especially the Fallout game series), then it's about time you watched this movie. Absolute genius. Again, the scenery is incredible!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine :- I don't get why this movie was by far the least successful of the five X-Men movies released so far, it just boggles my mind!!! It is by far the best in my book, and literally everyone i know who i have asked agrees. The direction is fantastic and has the most epic action scenes. The music is perfect, composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (my favourite composer who wrote music to the Metal Gear Solid game series, as well as movies such as Phonebooth, Deja Vu, Kingdom Of Heaven, The Number 23). But back to the hi-def. It is another fantastic action movie which includes a lot of special effects greatly enhanced by high-definition. This is also in my opinion a movie that would be appreciated by women just as much as men.

Pandorum :- Another very underrated movie starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster. Very dark horror movie (i consider it a thriller though, as horror movies rarely have a storyline to them) which looks great in hi-def!!!

Yep I second Pandorum, also I really liked The Johnny Dep remake of Alice in Wonderland and Max payne, the Noir feel on Bluray is just fantastic.

Second on I am legend and max payne! 300 isn't bad either... Haven't checked but if Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is available on blu-ray, must be really, that would be amazing what with the completely messed up view of vegas

I second Deanos shout of Life (BBC Doc), they have some of best cameras around, they look fantastic on Blu Ray.

I don't own Bluray (yet!) but I recommend Independence Day, thats if it is out on BR yet. A great film to check for sound too! I'm gonna get flamed now!

Actually Nightwingvyse I think from your film selection that we should get married and live in a giant humidor with the walls made from LCD TV's

I think instead the walls should be made from glass, with the TV's lined underneath them. All of the furniture should be made from Spanish Cedar and should all have cigars filled to the brim in every draw and cupboard (except of course for the ones with beer and whisky in them).

We would have to do this either in Japan or Sweden, cause, let's face it, they're the only places we wouldn't be accused of being of unsound mind.

Blue planet or any of those BBC documentaries are simply fantastic Sir David Attenborough is a god and has done so much to shape the way we see the world, if only there were a few more like him.

Also anything by Pixar.
Gladiator and Braveheart are pretty fab too.

Definitely this latest frozen planet series when it comes out, only watched a couple so far but on the HD channels it's astounding stuff, specially as he actually turns up at some of those locations and he must be about a hundred and fifty thirteen years old by now...!
