  • Other 'hobbies' or interests...

    Hi everyone,

I've been getting to know the 'regulars' on here over the last few weeks and many seem to share similar 'other' hobbies...food and wine, for instance...

I was wondering what else you guys are into?

I'm very passionate about fine wine - I try to buy 'en primeur' every release - burgundy, rhone and bordeaux...I like to buy the good releases and lay them down for the future. My fav's are Grand Cru Burgundy ch?teaux...

    Steve

    Where to start:

Shooting, boxing, rugby and ice hockey are the sports side of my interests/hobbies.

In terms of academics, mechanics and chemistry are my two main areas of interest, I like to especially explore mechanics, more quantum than classical but I'm not sure how many UKCF users share my passion with mathematics. I sound quite nerdy, I'm not but mechanics holds the answers to the "mysteries" of the universe(s), that's why I find it so interesting... knowing that theories such as time travel could be possible, is there life after death (i.e. is the "soul" comprised of universal fabric) or even simpler questions such as "what's out there?". Chemistry.. I'm a bit of a pyro.

*Normal hobbies* includes reading about forensic science, I love watching World War 2 films/documentaries and I'm a huge petrol head/motorbike enthusiast.

Main hobbies are watching film, adventurous cooking, whiskey & brandy (just branching out to rums).
Helping a close friend of mine set up a Retro Computer Museum.
Sport wise I like Rugby, love anything two-wheeled British Superbike, World Superbike and MotoGP, also Irish Road Racing.
I've owned a lot of motorcycles over the years but recently hung up my leathers, I do miss the buzz of track days.

The other main thing that is taking most of mine and my wifes time up is tracing her new family tree, to cut a very long story short, she is an adopted child who never traced her birth parents, about six months ago a call came out of the blue. It was a daughter of her birth mother who had traced her. After the total shock it turns out my wife has three sisters living around the world (with families of their own), four uncles and cousins everywhere. The story also invloves Arson, fleeing countries, Playboy and OJ Simpson!
Exploring the world - one smoke at a time.

My main hobby would be Diving, something I am looking to turn into a career at some point in the not to distant future. Any other Divers out there? Very much enjoy food, love to get in the kitchen to cook, also really enjoy getting down to Borough market on a Friday to enjoy the food and some of the women that are always knocking about in their hundreds.

Sounds like an interesting line Dave, think it might need a thread all on its own.

My main hobby and thing I'm most passionate about is playing drums & percussion but it's also my job so I'm not sure that counts. I love cooking any sort of food from everyday meals for the family to weird food science type stuff. I'm not particularly into sport but I pretty much don't leave the sofa during Wimbledon. Other things I enjoy are helping my brother with his cheese company and sampling all the new produce as it comes in, I also try to see as much live music as possible.

Does your brother have a website for his cheese company?

Steve, I'm also into my wine, have been for a while, but have been really getting into it in the last year. Bought my first En Primeur this year and hope to get another 3 case before the years out, all in storage for me for many years to come.

Additional interests include the usual sports of football, rugby and golf, love watching films and going to the cinema, in fact going to the pics here in about an hour, as well as listening to music and spending time with my new daughter.
