  • Burgled for the first time...

So..Just been burgled for the first time..

I went away this weekend, and got home lunchtime today, to find the back door kicked in and the house in a complete state. Did the usual panic and went a bit mental as wasnt sure when it happened or if it was still going on. Finally calmed down and sorted it out with the police and the such. Spoke with the neighbours who didnt see or hear a thing unfortunately. They took most of my smaller electrical items, however I guess fortunately, I had both of my Macs with me! Everything else has gone though. This, I wouldnt have minded sooo much if they had left the place alone, however, they decided to wreck pretty much everything in my house! My TV is on the floor in pieces, my CDs are all smashed up and everywhere (I have over 1000 CDs and most of them are now in pieces in a pile...this is probably the thing that has got to me the most, as most are irreplaceable!) Almost all of my clothes are on the floor, half of them ripped and torn, and the reason Im posting up on here...is my humidor is now in about 7 pieces on the floor, as it appears to have been pushed to the floor and trampled on, crushing half of the cigars inside it, and the other half just thrown across the floor! This along with the rest of the mess they have caused, is just well...infact, I cant think of a word, im just so frustrated! I dont even know where to start on the clean up, and I certainly dont know where to start with everything that is damaged and replacing it! I thought when people robbed you they just took the expensive stuff quickly!! Who in there right mind creates this much damage, for no reason, to stuff they arent even going to steal, risking making a noise and getting caught? I just dont get it!

Seeing as im here, venting the only way I know how, to my internet brothers haha..as the misses is terrifed and need to keep up the strong face for her! Im now, unfortunately, currently in the market for a new humidor. Im going to post up in the wanted section a bit later. However, does anyone have a spare one lying around they arent using that I can buy from them? As for count, anything will do at the moment as I want to try and save the uncrushed cigars as soon as possible. Im hoping a used one from you guys might season up a bit quicker, and obviously now in the position I am in, Im hoping I can grab a used one from someone a little bit cheaper, as I have way tooo much to replace at the moment so cant really afford to go the brand new route! So yeah, if anyone knows of anything, or has anything I can take off their hand please let me know. Or if anyone has a spare copy of Silverchairs first EP 'tomorrow', that they only pressed 500 of on CD, that for any reason they dont want either...let me know haha!

Sorry again for ranting, Im just pissed off and frustrated, and bit concerned, as this has never happened to me before, so a bit concerned in case Ive missed something important they have taken, or they come back, or god knows! Anyone been burgled before? How long did it take for everything to return to normal?

    Grrrrrr! Rant over!

Dude...sorry to hear about what's occurred...there are some real pieces of work out there mate, and unfortunately you've now had experience of the lowest of the low.

If you are still stuck for a humi, I'm also in London and could 'foster' your remaining sticks until ya get something sorted...not ideal, I know, but a stop-gap all the same.

Sorry to hear this mate, what can i say , i'd just like to catch these low lifes and kick shit out of em . I felt for those guys last week when they were looted and thier lives torn apart , I was ready to take to the streets to admiminister some justice . You will bounce back, with the help of those close to you and the insurance companies, install extra security, lets hope the Police catch them, this is the worst time for this type of crime, school holidays , warm nights etc . If you like animals get a dog . All the best . Light one up , pour a drink , f##k em.

Dude goes withought saying this is total shit I was done over once apx 18 years ago luckily I was young and hadn't accumulated much unlike yourself and your music, I just can't find the words....
However you mentioned being worried about other items, check for passports, bills ID etc incase of identity theft to follow. Sounds like young knob heads not having the cop on to get out quick with minimal disturbance BUT they could make cash on your ID
You and yours are in my thoughts I'm sorry I'm not local to help further although ryanair is cheap if you find out where the live.....

So sorry to hear about that mate, the only reason I can think of for the wanton destruction is that they were all smacked up at the time, little comfort.

I actually had Silverchair's first EP, an old girlfriend got it for me back when we were teenagers. I don't have a clue what happened to it I'm afraid but if I still had it I'd be sending it your way!

I'm very, sorry to hear about your situation. Had a charter boat broken into once, but I don't think I could comprehend the violation you must be feeling that your home has been broken into. You have my deepest sympathy, though I appreciate it may be of little comfort, and even less help.

The sound like a bunch of... well, I'm sure some of the words I would have used are quite obvious. I can logically understand theft (I completely abhor it, but can in some way understand why - cold hard cash). But to trash another person's stuff, just for the sake of it, I cannot understand in the slightest. To me that sort of behaviour is below sub-human. I too would like to join the team to treat their 'condition' if they are found.

Best wishes with bouncing back, and if you need to vent and rant again we're here to take it for you.

Very VERY sorry for you mate.

The looting and rioting made me furious last week because it brought back memories of our house being broken into in much the same way as you describe. It was in October/November and the clocks had just gone back. I arrived home to find the front door with the chain on so I couldn't get in. I walked to the back door and found some bastards had jemmied the back sliding doors off and got into the house. Destruction much like your own.

We were told the Police would come to do the angel dusting and fingerprinting. Don't move a thing! We lived like that for three days before they eventually turned up!

Nobody was apprehended for this. It took ages for the insurance claim to be dealt with. My wife was jittery for yonks and my children were scared for a while.

The next year, a random arsonist set fire to my car outside our house. I was paranoid for a while. Why me? What have I done? What filth have they unearthed about me?...

We heard nothing until in the local paper 18 months later there was a small paragraph saying a man had been arrested for setting fire to a car in a nearby village. He had admitted to 110 other car arsons!

I think he got a minimal sentence and no doubt got out as an obliging citizen to sit with his poodle and suck sherbert lemons on the White Cliffs of Dover fiddling with some born again rosary beads.

But what about my fucking car? I can't get to work any more? I'm having to get the bus. I'm having to buy a moped.

Sorry! But, in a sense, I wanted to make you feel a bit better!

We all invested in butch armoury round here - and gross dogs - so life has been sweet since.

I feel for you, mate. That is shit. Cannot help out with the humidor, I'm afraid.

Best of luck for what might be a bit of a long haul for the insurance reclaim.

                          Hey guys,

Thanks for the words of support! Just trying to took it easy last night, bottle of Talisker had been bought from Waitrose, and that was my main companion, along with a monte no.2 that needed saving!

Definitely some little scrots I imagine, unfortunately they were scrots who knew what they were doing. The fact they did it whilst I was away is what worries me the most, in case in some way they knew, Im hoping however they just got lucky! The problem is I live in a warehouse, which used to be an industrial building so is basically soundproof from the inside, which is why I picked it! However, it seems to have worked against me in this scenario! All of my ID is here and all my personal stuff thankfully! Although the folder I keep it all in was out on the floor, they hadnt bothered to open it. Luckily I had no major amounts of cash stashed in the house either! They did however make away with a couple of guitars, which between the two of them, took 5 years to source, so whether I can even replace them is doubtful!

Im expecting a fair battle with the insurance company. Never had to make a claim before, but havent ever heard a nice quick easy story about the process! In the meantime, who knows what im expected to do! Even if they do push the claim through, its going to be the process of replacing irreplaceable items im not looking forward to!

And thanks Steve, thats a very kind offer. If I dont manage to get something sorted in the next couple of days, its one I will probably end up taking you up on too!

Thanks again though guys for the support!

Bloody nightmare mate! Happened to me a coupla times about 15 years back when living at home with my Dad, sounds like you're lot were chancers with the mess and all, these ones musta planned it though, house was only empty for about 1 1/2 hours in the entire week and they knew it, in and out with all the electricals and done... One (two) easy insurance jobs though, all electricals and all with nice handy receipts so went smooth, might not be so easy with the kind of gear you're talking about though so good luck.

Same story as another one further up each time, sliding door at the back ripped off the rails... knew it each time as soon as I opened the front door and there was that draft coming through... sucks even when they leave yr personal stuff alone but seriously to trash the place must be ridiculous for you..

Keep up the good work with the Talisker and monte's, and get an alarm fitted if you don't already, oh and use it (hmmm, mine does tend to stay off, deterent anyway I guess!)

Can't IM or anything yet, soon hopefully, but once you have storage facilities for cigars again I'd be happy to throw a few sticks your way to help with the rebuilding of your collection?

Hi D.W, Commiserations for such an unfortunate event, I have never been burgled thank God but have heard many tales. One unfortunate consequence is that the lady of the house will never feel the same about it again. The feeling of invasion they feel has been likened to rape & therefore it is very common that the property is eventually put up for sale.

I understand your warehouse flat would be hard for you to leave & hopefully your wife will cope with this crime but I would try to be understanding, if after full repair & installation of further security measures she can still not relax & feel secure.

My best friend from the RN was burgled, they replaced the TV & VHS & then were burgled a further two times within 6/12. Most likely by the same buggers that did them over the first time. As they lived in a council estate & had three claims in 6 months, they couldn't afford the insurance hike. Luckily they managed to get on the housing ladder a very short time later, prompted by those events & have never had a problem since.

A Coolbox from B&Q will do fine for your remaining smokes, drop me a PM with your addy & I'll send you a wee package when I return to work in Sept, good luck with the insurance assessor.
