Of course they're fake? The lettering on the lid and cedar leave is one of the worst I've seen? If you had purchased these in a legit shop you wouldn't ask?

You and many others. You won't be the last. The only place to buy cigars in Cuba is in official stores. Everything else is fake.

Hell, the late, great don TJ once auctioned off a glass-top box of fauxhibas on this fine forum and got a pretty peso for his efforts. So all is not lost. Nothing wrong with having a few counterfeits around to remind you what to look for and to show your amigos!

Look fake. Uncurved corner on the inlay, no marks on the ribbon, no hologram, etc

You would think to help sell the fact they might not be fakes, they would just stick the sticker on!

I've often wondered about that too. Maybe the 'cottage industry' fakers don't apply the seals because to do so would change the category of the crime if they are caught. Faking Cohiba cigars, boxes and bands and putting then into boxes and selling them to tourists is a counterfeiting crime with Habanos and tourists as the victims. Bad enough, but apply the Cuban Government Warranty Seal and the crime moves into a different area .... and in a Communist country, possibly close to Treason.

well i'm glad i came here and asked first as brought them as xmas gifts for my dad and uncles and would rather look stupid on here than to give them a box of fake cigars lol. next time i'll make sure to buy from official outlets..

I'm sure it's the thought that counts, I've learned a lot from members on this forum (especially reading about fakes), I hope others will read this thread and pick up the indicators to spot fake cigars.

Might as well try & smok'em yourself, they might not be unsmokable, they are just not Cohibas. No harm in trying you've already paid for them& no one else will want them
