"Glue" on sticks.

I smoked a Monte 5 on Saturday which I didn't enjoy at all. In fact it was totally horrible but there were a couple of things I noticed about the construction. Firstly there were to green patches on the wrapper both of which were over seams. The second thing I noticed was what looked like small tears in the wrapper that had been repaired to the point that the dried glue was visible (see pic). This cigar had been recommended by various people and they all had positive things to say about it. Maybe it was just a youngun but it tasted awful to me. Could the construction issues have contributed to this?

Maybe it's just the picture quality but that band looks totally the wrong colour for a monte.

Don't be disheartened, there is always potential to get a bad stick, even when you have had the same numerous times before.

As for the presence of glue, that smacks of them not being stored correctly with a hasty repair, where did you purchase it from?

I thought that maybe it had been a botched repair job or that it was maybe a fake but I bought it from C.Gars so I was very surprised by the condition of the stick.

It's the one cigar I do have quite a bit of experience with and that is definitely NOT the best example I've seen. Shame cos they really are a great smoke and well worth another go

There's been a few occasions where I've seen some roller's glue left on the stick but I've never bought a repaired stick...could it be just a dollop of glue?! ....I'm sure CGars wouldn't repair knackered cigars

Not only the wrapper looks terrible (with some green parts) but this cigar seems to be underfilled… shame on the vendor!

That band looks odd to me as well. Too glossy and the wrong shade. I hope that is just the picture...

Aside from the band, the glue and construction don't seem unusual to me even though it is sub-par. The problem with a marca as popular as Montecristo is that they are generally overproduced. I personally only buy boxes of Montes when I travel to Switzerland or Spain and can check all of the cigars myself. QC on this brand is nowhere near where it used to be.
