May also have something to do with the sorting out of a lot of the major 'Grey Market' sales which happened at the turn of the year.

It's interesting they produced a lot more in 2008, and now we're finding that 2008 is a great year. Quite often you hear arguments about greater tobacco production in Cuba.

The Chinese market angle is interesting stuff indeed.Never thought about the Chinese smokers being into Cigars. With such a vast population and an increasing middle class I suppose it was only a matter of time.

Sales have been down for about a year. Rollers have been laid off or had their hours reduced. The Cuban cigar industry isn't doing all that well, the Regional Edicions and other special releases notwithstanding.

Since 2005 cigars are rolled with aged leaves (2-3 years). Then the cigars from 2008 were not rolled with leaves from the 2008 crop.

I still have a fond memory of enjoying cigars in 'The Billiard Room' of the Peking Hotel back in the mid '70s. Don't remember the brand but they were very floral and spicy-probably Philippine.
Cigars were not the choice of the majority of Chinese back then, but they were around and easy to come by.

In most disciplines journalists often list sources of information. I would love to see the sources of these numbers so one could gauge accuracy.

Sorry but I have to call this out as the self made byproduct of bovine manufacture!

Every shop i've spoken to over the last few months in Germany, Dubai and South Eastern Spain (maybe 12 different shops) have said it's been a bumper year even with the recession lingering.

Let me guess, your next comment will be "Cuba giving up on cigars!"

Followed by post #4 of "We've bought out a new rance of liquid cigars using Cuban rat milk"

                            Sheeesh!

I'm telling you lads, there's something fishy going on around here. The 2-post lad joined about a gazillion forums within the last few days, including this one, and has already been banned from one. I don't think he's legit, but he can speak for himself.

In the meantime....there's something rotten in Denmark!

NamesBoy, Bag Boy, and I'm keeping a watch on this one.
