  • Alternative to Montecristo Petit Edmundo

I am a new cigar smoker and generally stick with panatellas as larger gauge cigars still are a little difficult for me to get use to. However, I was with someone who was having a Montecristo Petit Edmundo and it was positively lovely. Does anyone have any suggestions on an alternative with a smaller gauge? What I loved about the cigar was how creamy it seemed and although it was more flavourful then what I am typically use to smoking myself I did not find it too overpowering.

Alternatively, does anyone have any suggestions on how to broaden my cigar horizons other then slowly increasing the ring gauge?

I just feel at a loss that until I am more comfortable with larger gauges I will only get to experience the joys second hand

The Monte PE is a lovely cigar and when they are good, they are GOOD...

Other cigars you can maybe think about giving a try are:

El Rey del Mundo Demi Tasse
      Montecristo No.5
      Partagas Short
      Ramon Allones Small Club Corona
      Trinidad Reyes

These cigars are all in and around the demi-corona size (4" x 39 ring).

None of these really pack a punch but are still full of flavour...

Im sure some of the others will be along in a while with more suggestions for you...

      Hope this helps...

      Cheers, HabanoSy

If you liked the typical Montecristo taste, the best alternative is the Monte 4 or Monte 5, followed by the Monte Open Regatta, and the San Cristobal El Principe… (IMHO)

Just step up to a Hoyo petite robusto, they are mild and lovely, yes a 50 gauge but it is imo just right, and the smoke only takes 40 mins to nub.

It has to be as simonc says, Hoyo de Monterey Petit Robusto. Fecking lovely, from a cab.

Like the boys above say, can't go wrong with a Hoyo de Monterey Petit Robusto.

Ramon Allones Small Club Coronas... very nice IMHO although a Hoyo de Monterey Petit Robusto will be on my next order to try.

Wow- I almost thought it was going to be shot down as a ridiculous question! I am so glad I asked. I now have a list to get me started

My husband is going to think I went crazy.

A lot of great suggestions here, but if you like the PE, but want a creamy smoke in a strong ring gauge, I would try the Montecristo Especial or Especial No. 2 for a shorter smoke. These are creamy, full of coffee, fruit and floral flavors and can still be gotten with some age in the UK. I wouldn't overlook Montecristo Joyitas either. Alternatively, for a little extra change, the Cohiba Exquisitos and Panatelas are fantastic. The Panatelas are consistently rolled at El Laguito.

Also, if creamy is what you like, the Hoyo Du Dauphin, which is still available in a 1998 vintage are as creamy and sweet as they come.

+1 on the Monte no 5. These are what turned me on to Cubans in the first place and still keep a few in the humi. Not sure how they compare to the PE but hopefully will find out this weekend if the weather's ok!
