Vegas Robaina cigars are not made with tobacco from the Robaina farm; the cigars sold at the farm have nothing in commun with the VR line?

Oh really - how so? What tobacco do they use then? Fascinated to know more about these fellas.

The Robaina farm is specialized in the cultivation of high quality wrapper leaves, grown under "tapados" (cloth tente that prevent the sun from darkening and thickening the leaves). The excellence of this production has earned Don Alejandro the honor of seeing a line of cigars named after him, but, again, there's no relation between the VR marca and the Robaina farm.
I've been told several times that the old man didn't have the VR line in high esteem, and the "farm cigars" he offered to his guests were certainly much better…

Thanks for explaining Smallclub. Makes sense. Jeez, he had some high standards though if he didn't enjoy the VR! I guess, seeing as he's widely regarded as one of the Godfathers of cigars, I'm certainly not going to argue with him. Just watched some videos of him, from the last few years of his life, on the net. Incredible character.

tbh I am not that crazy about the VR line either

Always thought it was something wrong with me, given that Robaina is so famous. Now I have the explanation.

Hi Smallclub, Yes I know the cigars I brought from the worker at the farm weren't VR but some custom rolled cigars, on which he had put some VR bands. The VR's are rolled in a factory, no where near the farm.
However we were told that although Robaina are known for growing the finest wrappers, according to the guide the Robaina family do control production of the whole line & are the only farm allowed to do so, a privilege granted by Castro, all other brands being supplied by many different farms. Wether this is true or not I cannot verfiy but he was most clear on this point.

This is bullshit for tourists; to begin with, this is technicaly impossible and just doesn't make sense…

Is it not possible that the VR line from Habanos SA could contain or be wrapped in leaves from the Robaino farm or are they used solely in other cigars? I didn't think that any of the farms did not aspire to growing the best leaves they could but Don Alejandro managed this quite significantly better than others.
Do you know which farms the wrappers on the VR's come from?
                          Regards, Puff.

Anyone happen to know where I can buy the aged (1999 I believe) VR cigars from the Boisdale event? Before I pester Mitch to ask, maybe you guys know? I can't find them on his website under the aged section - unless the main VR cigars he sells are in fact aged?

Would welcome your advice - thanks again.
