  • Quite illuminating 4-part film of last year's Habanos Festival XII

...(until Nic posts his of this year's!)

Not sure how I feel about all this; seems to me an event tinged with melancholy, "tackiness", reluctance(?) and a general discomforting air as well as luxury and decadence and "the good life", depending on who's viewpoint you look at it from (watch the myriad of workers/staff).

Even many of the attendees don't look to be having that great a time.....

On the one hand it seems a great event that I'd love to go to, but this doc leaves me feeling slightly... I'm not sure... queasy?

There's some interesting stuff at El Laguito and in the growing regions though....

(have to wade through a fair amount of cabaret to get to the good bits!)

Having never attended I'm, of course, in no position to comment really.

I have a feeling I'd rather my first visit to Cuba didn't involve going to the festival.

I'm sure I'm wrong, so it would be interesting to hear the views of those who actually HAVE been (i.e. know something - unlike me!)

    Thoughts?

for sure, no getting away from the selling thing!

I don't think I'd enjoy it much; I'd prefer to go at another time, stay at the Nationale, visit the factories, smoke the cigars etc in my own way

Excellent post, my view is the girls handing out the sticks are pretty sweet, makes you want to go for sure, wish I could say the same about the creepy old farts puffing on them.

No disrespect to Nic, great post great videos! He didn't seem to enjoy himself much. I guess one has to remember its a trade fair, press and buyers will no doubt know the score.
