Difficult one to call Deano, both great smokes but IMO the Monte takes the top spot, just.

      Enjoy!

I bought a box of both, and so far (from what I've sampled) I thought the Partagas needed more time, but (like the Sublime), the Monte was 'cracking' right from the off.

      So much chocolate!
(Though maybe not to eveyone's taste)

      Intrested to hear your thoughts.

I also have a box of both but in keeping with my current practice will not sample until at least 3 years old. Be very interested to see what you guys think.

NB - you see puffy, T is just a whore for any man with a big stick

Like Monkey, I'm laying mine away for at least another year or so until I even smoke one of them. I was bitten by the Cuaba Piramide and the Partagas D5s from 2008 which I now know to be smoking brilliantly....my advice: don't smoke this (or last ) years ELs until there's at least two years on them

I admire your willpower, but... how can you determine if they're aging well if you don't have a benchmark with which to measure them?

In some cases the LE's have proved better when smoked young.
The Monte Sublimes being a prime example (IMHO).

I just work on the basis they are nearly all better after 2-3 years. The problem for me is if I smoke a cigar too young my impression is permanently warped by that experience and it can turn me off a great stick that I just tried too damn early (Party D5's and Boli Petit Belicosos being examples). There may be the odd smoke that is better younger but I am prepared to risk that against my first taste being great.

It is also worth considering that many sticks are at their best on original release so if you decide you want to put some down you are best off taking the punt and buying a box first time round. I would suggest in the case of the Monte Sublime unless the comparasion between the new stick and the 2 year old one are from the same box it may not be an accurate reflection of how they are actually ageing. We also have to consider they may only show their true potential after 5 or more years.

IMHO it may well be that when HSA do a limited release they make a special blend with a special bundle of leaves. If it then continues to sell like hotcakes (like the Monte Sublime) they will continue to produce regardless of the absolute standard of the leaves. There is also an argument that first releases of sticks have to be of a high standard because everyone tries them, a year down the line they are still selling off the back of the reputation from the launch.

I left before he woke, I am at work. It is the LSE MIT go-live weekend, if anybody knows or cares (don't bother) so I will have to write about it later.

They go remarkably well with the Taittinger though, LOL
