I have an idea i'm working on where I want to by a box of cigars to hand out at my wedding (probably sept 2012) I want a specic box code month and year as either aug 08 or jul10 (so still in production). Not everybody who I will hand these to will be hardened smokers so looking for a smaller sized cigar and this will need to be a cigar that would be suitable for most people i guessed a londale or similar for this and was thinking along the lines of the ERDMs but looking for suggestions.

just want to point out....... lonsdales (dalia's or cervantes) aren't exactly 'small' cigars, except in ring gauge (42-43), they're usually around 6.5inches in length!!! they're also pretty expensive (typically ?16-18 a stick)!!! anyway, a bolivar gold medal or partagas 898v normally lasts me around 1hr 20mins approx....... much longer than you'd expect people to stand or sit and smoke at a wedding IMHO!!!

i've suggested this before, cohiba exquisitos are small cigars that are usually suggested for weddings, or what about h upmann petite upmanns (you can bust out the ol' JFK story, which was discussed recently)!!! bear in mind, those who don't smoke cigars regularly or appreciate cubans will probably get bored and chuck them or stub them out (happened at my mate's wedding last year, i gave out a few trini reyes and cohiba secretos and watched with disgust and horror when my friends smoked half then stubbed out or threw away)!!!

if,as you say not all your guests will not be regular cigar smokers, i would think long filler hand rolled cigars may be either wasted or too potent (even what we might consider mild cigars) it might be an idea to offer a selection consisting of a reasonable short filler machine made cigar that might be more enjoyable for occasional or non-cigar smokers - possibly petite corona is size that might have wider appeal than a lonsdale -Comment

I'd echo senor robusto's comments about the Cohiba Exquisitos being a nice wedding cigar - a little bit classy, not too large and a very nice cigar to boot.
I would add, however, that I love the Lonsdale size, and think there's something about that vitola (along with the Churchill) which does seem to scream out "wedding" and "celebration" to me... I'd probably plump for your original thought and grab some ERdM Lonsdales - smooth, tasty and quite light, so even the non-smokers should enjoy.
I wouldn't give the non-smokers short fillers though - they'll wonder why they're not worthy of something better and wedding's are supposed to be all out celebrations! Plus, I've yet to give a non-smoker/occasional smoker a 'real' cigar and not seen them with a huge grin on their face because of the lovely flavour. Best if everyone has the same. Just my thought though - it's your wedding! (Well, it's her wedding... and don't you forget it!

i don't know........ reckon i'm with patrick on this one!!! you could do worse than buying a load of cohiba clubs to hand out!!! for a start, there's no denying it's a cuban, it's a cigar (of sorts), it lasts around 20mins (which is good timing for a wedding) and it'll appeal to the cigar smokers, ciggy smokers and non smokers you choose to give them to!!! also, if your guests get bored and decide to chuck them or stub them out, you'll not be peeved!!! i'd suggest you buy the lonsdales for you and your close buddies to chill out and smoke after your wedding when you all can spend the time and properly appreciate them.......
just a thought!!!

Thanks for the replys I'm not sure about the clubs tbh as if you ask most people what a cigar is most will inevitably say a churchill size type cigar. Therefore if I hand out mini's I think people will not really associate them as cigars. The Cohiba suggested I may look at but this would be the smallest I would go. I take Simons point I dont think it's fair to hand out different types. I'm also aware that people could get bored and stubb them out half way through but I guess that I will have to be brave and ignore it if it happens.Comment

How about a practical option? If you want Lonsdales/Churchills, have them at the Stag do, when there will be far more time to enjoy them & after all your chosing all the guests. Easiest way is to bring a small humi/ large cigar box, put in there a selection of sizes & brands (if you have any NC's you have got hanging around, Non-Cigar smokers or newbies will often pick the NCs with there flashy bands & smooth wrappers).
Some will always take the largest offered coz it's free, even if they don't finish them. But as you say in this situation the best you can say is just lay it done when you have finished, don't stubb it out.
At the wedding, you will have little time & a bunch of guys & gals you have never/hardly met (her friends & family). The wedding reception is quite tightly choreographed & looking for more than 30mins is pushing it if you have to leave the building/ Marque to smoke them. Remember your wife will remember, recall & bring up even yrs later on her version of memeories from 'her day', don't let them include you dragging all the guys away for an hr plus when the ladies were expecting the dancing to start ect ect.

I've got to agree with this having got married last July. I cannot think for a moment during the day when I had 10 mins to spare, let alone be available for a smoke for an hour... my over-riding memory from the day is actually how little time that I had to spend with each & every one of my friends & guests.Originally posted by Simon Bolivar View Post
My wife & some friends run a small business that offers a wedding day co-ordination service and to say that a wedding day is tightly choreographed is a huge understatement.
Maybe one other opportunity to enjoy a good smoke might be to plan one in with your groomsmen and best man, Dad etc at the Pub before the service.

For current Lonsdales Monte 1s are pretty consistently excellent in my book.
If I were being tricksy I'd buy a load of big, fat, cheap NCs and a box of Monte 4s. Offer them around and hope that the decent stuff's left at the end
