I bought my box based on recommendation from my brother who only enjoy smooth and elegant things in life, he said this is the smoothest small cigar there is. so without tasting one, i ordered a box and I am a bit dissappointed. let me taste a few more before I come to conclusion. now i have had it for a few weeks and am sure the storage is ok, I should taste again to see.
    hey sean,
i hope you don't mind me asking, but why smoke so early in the morning? i know most on here smoke early (some ex-cigarette smokers looking an early morning nicotine hit), i don't!!! i just can't bring myself to do that yet!!! lol!!! why not leave it till later in the day, say lunch time after you've eaten breakfast and lunch and had a couple of coffees or drinks etc? i'm pretty certain you'll seem a dramatic difference in taste and strength since your body and pallet will have had time to wake up and adjust!!! i myself normally only smoke in the evenings once i've left my son home or put him to bed, when i can sit quietly and enjoy the cigar!!!

btw, please don't take me up wrong, if smoking a cigar at 9am is your thing, no one can take that away from you!!! i hope i don't sound condescending, that's not my intention!!!

i have to say, there's something about this is agree with!!! the man just seems like a smug git....... perhaps though i'm jealous his life's work is travelling the world, sampling fine wines and cigars and reporting his opinions back to us mere mortals....... all whilst being paid for his time and trouble!!! b'stard!!! lol!!!

      but seriously...........

I'll be honest I thought exactly the same... however I met him briefly at the Behike launch and he was a lovely down to earth fella... some others on here will no doubt have spent more time with him (I'm thinking of a couple in particular) who may well have more to say about him. I think sometimes his "American-ness" doesn't suit the British sensibilities and subtleties, but I think if you sat and smoked with him...you'd enjoy the comapny.

And nothing like breakfast at 7.00pm eh dudey?

I'll put in my fourpeneth here having briefly met JS at both the Behike launch and in London. He most certainly has a job and lifestyle all of us would want and since he stepped away from CA to develop his new web site he has been getting some stick from all sorts of areas from people who don't like his style.

He is a huge Cuban cigar fan and writes with real passion about cigars, if you read his article after the death of Alejandro Robaina it was extremely moving. I think Drew has a point and that his style may not suit our Anglo Saxon sensibilities but I find he scribblings interesting and informative.

As I understand it his current content is free and at some point it will all go behind a pay wall so my advice is enjoy it free while you can.

Wish you had spoke up sooner, my Asian Amigo. I just finished off a box of '07s I found buried in don TJ's massive humidor that were quite lovely. A Coro morning favorite accompanied with a fine cup of Mexican Joe!

Hey Bag Boy! When did you ever swap sticks, you cheap bastard?

(Ahem!) And for the record, we Coros dig Suckling. His reviews were the main reason don TJ subscribed to CA.

                          hey sean,
here's a review i wrote last year on the trinidad reyes:

doesn't sound like the experience your getting at all..... then again, it is subjective and everyone has they're own tastes and preferences etc!!!!

coz 1. i can't smoke at home, i don't smoke at work, the only time every week i can escape the mrs. is the 1 hour after my routine golf range practice on sat and sundays (which starts 730am) and hence the regular morning smoke.

as i said , i will smoke a few more before i say a word about the Reyes.

Back to Reyes - the video prompted me to light one up & it's simmering away in my left hand as I type this (what do you mean you're supposed to use both hands?).

Anyhow this is the second of two I recently acquired as part of a trade on here - smoked the other soon after receiving them & didn't enjoy it much at all, which is surprising as I would have put the Reyes as one of my all time favourite smokes, must have had 3 or 4 X 24 boxes & many many 5 packs, but had not smoked one for a couple of years. At the time I put my disappointment down to changing personal tastes (I've noted a definite slide away from Cohiba, previously one of my faves) - the stick itself was nothing but text-book Trini to me.

That recent Reyes I would describe as quite "punchy" or "tangy" - what I imagine some people could call "spicy". This one however seems more mellow, not exactly creamy, but perhaps chocolatey or mocha-y, with grassy/woody/herbal notes (reads a bit like a Cohiba, but very noticeably different to me in actual sensation).

Whether this one's older than the first, I don't know (i'd have imagined NOT having come from the same trade), so maybe the difference is purely subjective - I've just had a lovely meal out & currently enjoying a Croft Indulgence. Previously I think was probably on a Friday after a Sainsbury's curry 'n Stella 'n tea combo.

Whatever - THIS Reyes is one of the tastiest I've ever smoked, it's like I always imagined an aged stick would be, but never had the self-discipline (or financial resources to stock enough..) to age a box.

I think a problem with the description "spicy" is that it's significantly in the eye of the beholder - to some it can mean hot/chilli/peppery, to others it means nutmeg/cloves/All Spice etc. To me a Montecristo trade mark (certainly in the smaller - 5 & 4 - sizes, that across all brands tend IMO to exhibit the respective brand chatracters best) is spiceness of the latter type. This Reyes is now beginning to show (or I'm beginning to notice) the peppery type of spiceness which I'd prefer to describe as tangy/punchy, using the description peppery or pepper for eg some of the stronger, maduro NC's such as Padron (IIRC it's a while since I had one of those).

I'm blabbering now, so I'll just sit back & enjoy the rest of this Reyes - probably the best smoke I've had over the holidays & for some timer before. I might have a '98 Fundadores for the start of 2011, if our dinner/house guests hit the sack whilst I've still got the wherewithall.

Happy New Year to all, if I don't get round to posting again before the decade's out.
