We visited the factory where they are rolled last November. It was a non- Havana factory (30 min drive from Havana) and from the outside you would think you were on the set of a spaghetti western. However, it was one of the best run factories I have ever visited in Cuba. All the rollers were happy & proud, there was real quality control and the manager was one of the most hands-on and knowledgable we had experienced. All in all it proved to me that you get out what you put in - not just the tobacco but also the people.
I haven't smoked one in the last 6 months but I will be doing just that tomorrow.
As promised - I sampled one of these beauties today (J. Lopez - Seleccion Suprema UK RE).
Since my last smoke 6 months ago I found that it has developed some wonderful strength & complexity in the 2nd half. Initial flavour was relatively light and nutty developing into coffee as the smoke progressed.
Construction was good (as per others smoked), nice ash and a firmish draw (as I like it).
If it continues to develop this way with age then I think it will be a real collector's gem in another 2-3 years.
