Economy is buggered. There's less people for the government to feed now and less pesky demonstrators.

I had already read this in a more general article about the country's economic malaise. Raising the embargo would be a good first step but bloody Trump won't do it

The tragedy continues to roll on, the decrease in food production mention in the article is stark, beef down to 10% of just a couple of yrs ago, ;ork worse. we can imagine tobacco production is similarly down but I don't see any figures being published. It is known that some tobacco farmers have gone over to food production so at least they can feed their families.

Perhaps part of the price raising is to get a similar amount of revenue, from smaller stocks of cigars? And if they can get that from Asia, they aren't worried about Europe?

Habanos recently boasted biggest earnings ever up 31% year on year https://tobaccoreporter.com/2024/02/...lion-turnover/

The income is not being reinvested into tobacco farming, at least in terms of fuel or drying barns or wages from what I understand. Some tractors recently appeared though! And fuel?... https://en.cibercuba.com/noticias/20...ractores-vende

So how this will impact the next 5 years? Who knows. They seem to be producing more. But certainly not really appearing in Spanish tabacs! So perhaps it is mostly Asia and the highest end of their market. Which is what they are clearly pampering.
