  • Simon B's Encyclopedia of Cuban Cigars E: ERDM

ElRey Del Mundo King of the World! Established in 1882, one of the oldest Cuban marca's, classified as Light to Med strength. Small share of the market but a fav for many C.A.'s, who appreciate athe range of lighter to full strength cigars.

Some try an ERDM after a heavy dinner & feel it's lacking punch & doesn't satisfy, that's not what they are intended for. Try a wee Demi Tasse after breakfast, with coffee - puurfect start to the day IMHO. Have time late morning or indeed, after a light luncheon of fish & dry white wine, finish the bottle with a Choix Supreme, you'll want no more. There are more exotic vitolas but sadly al now deleted but I will highlight those I have tried & that you might find on the secondary market.2

    Choix Supreme 48 x 5" Hermosa No4 (not as commonly confused, a Robusto, they are 50 x 4 7/8"). Pre Rev.
50 SLB unbanded until 2005, SLB discontinued in 2010. 25 Dress boxes still in production.
Smoking my last CS inside, before the 2007 ban, Soho.

    Coronas de Luxe 42 x 5 5/8" Coronas Pre Rev, discontinued 2006..
Humi x100 pre Rev, discontinued <2000, SLB 50 Pre Rev, Discontinued <2002, Dress Box 25 discontinued 2006.

Demi Tasse 30 x 4" SLB x25 discontinued <2003 ( I never saw one, assumed production actually ceased yrs before, as I have been buying the Dress Boxes since 1996).
The shortest Cuban cigar in current production, although the Cohiba Panatela, Monte Joyita's are both Laguito No3's, @ 26 x 4 1/2" are actually lighter.

    Christmas Morning 2010.

    Elegantes Panatela Largos 28 x 6 7/8" Pre Rev, discontinued 2002. SLB 25 & Dress box 25, both discontinued 2002.
I managed to buy a sealed 1970's SLB at auction, always a risk but I got lucky & they are amazing smokes, perfect with a glass or two of champagne, on a summers evening, when the lighter fragrances can hang on the warm air & can be best appreciated. So much so, I don't smoke these in the summer - even in my Cigar Lounge. Such a cigar deserves suitable respect.

    Grandes de Espana Delicados 38 x 7 1/2" Pre Rev, discontinued 2010.
    SLB 25 discontinued 2002, Dress box 25, discontinued 2010.
Appropriately, I first tried these in Spain, buying a single from the Tobac in Calpe, trying it that evening & then pancing so much I could hardly sleep that night, worried someone would have come in & bought the remaining 22stix. Luckily, I was indeed able to buy them the next morning, at the princely sum of e6.5 each! I later bought a couple of boxes more. Yes dear reader, I loved them!
Smoking my first, think the picture tells the story.

One of the best Cervantes back in the day for flav & I only had a few with tight draws (a problem with all marca's with this vitola).

SLB 25, Dress box 25 & & in Cello, Box of 10, with & without Cello.
Having smoked both, IMHO exactly the same as the Elegantes but with a less elegant name!

Such a tragedy they're almost all gone.
The Choix Supreme is a masterpiece and is often called a poor man's CoRo; it trumps the CoRo every time IMO. Kind of HTF these day so if you ever see them, take them home with you

Is that 50 cab Simon? Lovely. I saw a 2007 cabinet of 50 in Andorra a few years ago and left it behind... Moron!! 😪😪😪😪

Love ERDM. Choix Supreme are excellent, only a handful left, trying not to but I might have to pay UK for another box. My big regret was not buying Boxes of the Grandes De Espana only a few years ago when cgars had them for £375. Seemed expensive at the time.
Love the La Grande Dame and El Rey Del Mundo photo; a great pairing phonetically and in the usual way.

ERDM is one of my all time favourite cigars.
If only I’d bought my life time supply of cigars years ago and a massive walk in humidor to store them in.

Great write up, the Grandes de Espana Delicados I’d never heard of and look right up my street, shame now discontinued. Recently picked up some royal series in a LCDH but will need some age before firing

Cheers! Glad you're enjoying these pages, even if it whets your appetite for cigars that are now VHTF. At least if you spot one at the back of an old Spanish Tabac, you'll know better than to leave it there!
