There used to be a few groups on FaceBook which had auctions running. Against FB T's & C's they were kind of underground - in by invite.
Unfortunately the ones I was aware of are gone now (shutdown by FB and by choice), which is a real shame as they were a good resource for information too.

      I thought I'd give a quick update.....

The process was pretty stress free. After a brief email conversation where I listed everything I was looking to sell (including box codes and place of purchase), the cigars were sent in to CGars for their appraisal. A few days later they emailed an estimate for each of the lots and a suggested an estimate & a reserve price. They then gave me a choice, either to submit them for their next auction or have them returned. At this stage they also offered a 3rd option - they would be prepared to buy them (they offered me the figure they'd suggested as the reserve price). I wasn't expecting this, and knowing if I took it there would have been no sellers fees to pay I was tempted for a minute, but after looking at their previous auction results I felt it was a good bet to put them into the auction.

CGars photographed & catalogued the boxes into 15 lots, and the auction went "live" last Thursday. They emailed me with a list of lot numbers so I could keep an eye on them. The auction was a 7 day affair - each lot finished yesterday, but people could submit bids at any time from the 22nd. The majority of bids came in last minute however, and I'm pleased to say that all 15 lots sold above high estimate (some quite substantially so). It will be 28 days before I get paid, but after deducting the 15% seller's fee (plus VAT) I'm looking at almost twice what I was offered initially.

Assuming that all the winning bidders actually pay up, and I get paid within the 28 days promised, I really can't fault it. Certainly far less hassle than selling them myself

That’s a win, good to know. What’s happened with the price of cigars is really quite astonishing.

It’s almost as if there was no recession and people have money to get rid of.
