  • And now the discounts

Interestingly 200£ and more discounts have appeared on our sponsors site. They never used to discount cigars.

I think we've reached the end of Habanos price increases for this year.

Some of these prices are pretty much in line with Europe and beyond now! Alright, a lot higher then before across the board.

Interesting, guess sales are slowing down at the increased price.

Less than £24 each is pretty decent for the UK, I noticed that they don't mention any discounts on the home page, guess you were looking for these?

Nope. Just had a poke in the sale section for drinks.

There's got to be a limit to people paying £30 - £40 for a robusto. Hopefully a sign of the times to come.

Don't they generally sell at inflated prices anyway?

the ferocious prices have turned me away from Cuban cigars... the UK prices have never been appropriate for the majority of UK consumers. The global price changes have pushed Cuban cigars into an ultra-premium party which i honestly don't feel comfortable attending or affording. Even discounted like this - a c.25% reduction - it smells of prior profiteering. Clearly folk are in it to make ££ and to maximise value from constrained stock levels, but it all feels OTT. It's a shame when this kind of sale price 'feels' reasonable. But I am a realist. It is a good deal in the now.

The prescience of the Bond Roberts launch was uncanny... off-set declining walk-up retail sales with a secondary market, sales channel, where you can earn a premium, as 'ordinary' collectors offload collections on the back of the bubble. I'd be amazed if the retailers aren't buying stuff back.... Smart, especially if you could see the price rises were coming. Given the crop challenges shortages will be sustained... so where do you get stock when the source cant supply?!

Habanos SA push the top end product, despite its flaws when compared to its competitors. And there will never be an apology on quality as it would confirm the premium price as being all about branding and a miniscule 'recipe' tweak (add medio tempo etc) to deliver a 'premium' blend. Think posh biscuits vs every day... its a gram or two of salt per tonne of dough, an extra lick of chocolate, plus jazzy packaging. No more, no less! Range Rovers and their less than ideal performance/ reliability record and excessive service charges, priced to the moon vs Asian vehicles with exceptional reliability coming out at a fraction of the ££. It's not a new trick. But it works.

When i start to buy again it will likely be dear old Davidoffs. Expensive but not excessive, good quality, and reliable.

Appreciate this makes me sound like a swivel eyed loon, but my love of the glorious cuban is distinctly dented. I dont resent capitalism - but I dont like being mugged!

There's a lot here I can agree with, the posh biscuit analogy is spot on & started with ER's IMHO. All the RA ER only differ in size & shape, flav is just the same (allowing for the minor change due the delivery of the vitola i.e. short thick stick compared long & skinny. But collectors like to collect & most of us must have tried some & we all like attractive sticks in our humi's. But whereas there were still plenty of the normal range, at normal prices.

Today's situation is unprecedented in price increase combined with supply issues. I was hoping it would be a temp blip but with a poor harvest , I can see it lasting another yr or two. Who know's what will happen then? As smoking restrictions continue to increase & numbers of smokers declining, I can only imagine in 10-20yrs cigars sales will be a fraction of the number sold 10yrs ago, especially in the UK. Frankly, smokers are a dying breed - which ever way you want to take that.

The Bond Roberts issue is a diffent thing. Some commercial sellers might have bought in the beginning but the prices they reach today, I can't see much profit as they are too high for me now!
I know some Commercial sellers bought as Cgars Auction back int he day, I once bid along side Ranald of Boisdales & asked his his cigar sommelier, if Ranald was biding for his own collection (when I wouldn't stand a chance) or for re-sale in his businesses & he confirmed the later. I picked up a box of RG Slenderella's, not favoured by his typical customer.

Just had confirmation from my friend in Brussels 25 cab of Epi no2's currently e412.5 or e16.5 each. Still nearly £200 cheaper to fly & buy, than buying in the UK.

If you ask me Cgars became very greedy over the last few years, their prices went extreme compared to other retailers and I don't like such blatant rip off profiteering. (Buying new) Cuban cigars is virtually finished for me right now, nearly every cigar I liked has been discontinued in favour of these fat double or triple banders and pricing tripled whilst quality didn't, you can forgive that when you're buying Robustos at £10 a stick, less so at £30..
