  • Finally moved into the new house.

Apologies for disappearing for 6/52 but have been too busy to log on. We spent the first couple of weeks of my leave getting MLW's UK Visa Application sorted & handed over to our Immigration lawyer. Of course you don't need to use a lawyer but turns out we only had 10 days to get our application in, before our particular route was closing down & I don't think we'd have managed with out her. All off now, along with Wife's passport so no travelling until it is returned, with or without the Visa. Expected date Sept - Dec.

The weekend before we went over to Antwerp, to see friends & relations. I managed a Herf with my buddies & collected a further 100 of my cigars that Zowie was looking after for me.

Came back & collected keys to house. First disappointment, once the large shed had been emptied, rot was visible, a quarter of the floorboards & a bottom 3 of the fence side need replacing. Main problem seems to be the gap between fence & shed is too tight to be able to get between & paint it. Also have next doors hedges growing over it & laying on roof.

So I decided to to spend money upgrading the electrics to the Shed & saved that £650 but what I didn't expect was the Electrician removed the wiring & so no no light or power. Not safe mate, more than my job's worth ect.

He has left a junction box against the house so it can be re-wired later.

Main question, whether it's worth repairing or demolish & replace? The smaller shed is newer, well off the ground & just needs some obvious gaps in the boards filling in. Bit small for smoking though. Need it really for garden stuff & wet fishing nets ect.

I am going to get a quote from a carpenter, how much it would be to repair. Might do that & then get a Summer house to fit in between the sheds & just use that for smoking & leave the big shed for fishing tackle & stuff.

We spent the first week decorating & moved in after 7 days. Had 2 & 1/23 Luton vans pull up & 5 men managed to unload them in 2 & 1/2 hrs, having emptied our storage unit the evening before.

A few wks later & there is a sense of order in each room, except the 2nd bedroom, which is still jammed with unopened boxes. Problem, nearly every other room seems to be full already, as are the sheds & loft. There are going to be some hard decisions, that would have been cheaper to make before we left Belgium bur there you go...

Managed a few cigars in the garden, that really is a plus, after 30yrs of just having a patio, that only had sun on it for an hr a day.

Luckily it's the river close season so I wasn't distracted but I may nip out for an early morning session or two next leave on the pits, just to try some top water lures out.

On FB, some nice shots came up from our last cruise, Feb/mar '20.

Glad you managed to get moved in Simon - if you need any advice/help with Summerhouse if you go that route, just ask buddy. We can hopefully start some herfs between us soon, once your settled and our diaries can get aligned 👍

Good to hear you have managed to move in. Always difficult to move, even more so I imagine when going cross border. Thought you had been quiet of late!

Get yourself a plastic shed Simon, Peter do some good ones. No rot problems ever again. Mine easily weathered the recent storms.

Hi Simon, glad you're in getting settled, it takes ages, I know! We're still moving boxes from one room to another two years after moving into our latest.

First priority is a dry, warm manshed

Well we have two sheds, one a bit small, one a bit damp so it's either replace the large one or buy a third to sit in between, just for smoking. Going to view examples in Christchurch this leave.
