My experience of crowd funding has been mixed, but in this case it’s straight forward enough and backed by a known publisher so I wouldn’t be worried about not getting the book.
It’s a book so no import charges. Worst case VAT and handling fee at this end

Money's very safe AFAIK. Pay with a credit card to be doubly sure
Also, you don't pay import fees on literature/books/magazines/printed matter .... Well, one didn't before Brexshit!
