  • A good cigar for a wedding

So my best friend has finally bitten the bullet and proposed to his girlfriend (under duress I might add), and I've been picked as his best man. Well, joint best man...it's compicated. Anyhoo, since it's one of those proposals that means they won't be getting married for at least 4 years, I thought it might be nice to purchase a CC and age it until their wedding day. And while I'm at it buy one for myself

Thinking of buying a couple of HdM Epicure Especials for the occasion. It fits the bill quite well as he's a cigarette smoker but has only had one or two cigars, so I don't want anything too big or powerful. What I was wondering though is if anyone can recommend a better choice? It crossed my mind to get a 2010 EL or ER.

And I'm still waiting for the ashtray to lead me astray

I'm not a fan of them at the moment, but I agree the EE would be a good choice if he doesn't smoke cigars that often. Expect him to get bored of it halfway through though, and try to think when in the course of events you would manage to keep him outside (usually away from things) for that long.

There is only one wedding cigar... the RyJ Churchill.

Or perhaps the Prince of Wales if you can get your hands on any. Then there's always something like the Punch Punch (a classic) or a Punch d'Oro which is classy looking and always gets good reviews. Too many to choose from, but I still maintain that the RyJ Churchill should be the choice of wedding cigar.

A 2010 EL might be a nice touch, commemorating the year of engagement at the celebration of the nuptials.

        +1

Also, if you get one of them stumpy 2010 LE Trinidads, it won't matter if he gets bored of smoking it half way through... it'll already be burning his fingers!

          hey bambini,
nice idea!!!! i'd have to agree with simon, the ryj churchill would be, for me, THE wedding cigar!!!! you could pick up an H&F aged one from 1998 and age it some more (making it a 16yr old cigar)!!! i've had a couple of these now and they're terrific!!!!

what about a cohiba siglo VI? needs no introduction or explanation!!!!

.......and for my 2 pennies worth about the HDM EE, as much as i love them, i don't see aging them for 4 years will make much of a difference to them.....

bear in mind though mate, weddings can be chaotic affairs at best, and managing to get a couple of minutes with the groom can be near impossible, let alone an hour or more for a good cigar (i know, i've been groomsman at 3 weddings in the last 7 months)!!! maybe you should shoot for a smaller cigar if you fully intend to have a cigar with the groom......

          all the best,

          alex

Thanks for all the helpful advice.

Yeah, I had thought about the lack of time on the wedding day. Thinking back to my own wedding, I was so busy flitting between groups, I struggled to find a few minutes for my dad to buy me a celebratory drink!

I figured I'd sit and smoke whatever cigar with him the day before the wedding. No doubt he'll be cacking himself, and there's always that few hours the night before the wedding where (the groom at least) has not much to do.

I'd toyed with the idea of a RyJ Churchill, but rejected it thinking it might be a bit too big for the groom as a cigar newbie. But then it is creamy and smooth, and it does has that "wow" factor because of its size... Oh, I'm so stuck! Incidentally, is there some sort of tradition that makes the RyJ Churchill the wedding cigar of choice?

I'm getting married a week today. Jibjob79 being the great botl that he is has purchased a box of party shorts. This will mean I can have a quick smoke with plenty of flavour. I am planning to have the bigger smoke the night before. Might go for the Churchill unless anyone wants to suggest something else. Good luck as best man!

I think a wedding Churchill might be nice. But as it is a Wedding .... why not look at something like the Davidoff Grand Cru No.1. Those white bands look the business.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Thread-jack away! For me a good thread is like a good conversation: it flows, evolves and isn't necassarily limited by the heading

Oh, and thanks for the Davidoff tip. Always with the good advice, sir!

(Though. . . It's not too late to change your mind you know... I know a place you can hide out.)
Hey... gotta look out for a 'Brother'.

Ignore the above post (he's been at the 'happy' meds again). The 'Grooms' a novice smoker, it'd be a waste.

Hell, you could just buy a hamlet and stick a cohiba band on it and I'm sure he'd be happy.

N.B. El Cat does not endorse or support the practice of counterfeiting or passing off crappy cigars as Cubans, etc, etc.

It's such a Special Day and with my best wishes, should only be done once

There's only one well maybe two Cigars I'd recommend ......and no Shock it's not a Partagas

I'd recommend a Aged (4-5yrs) Cohiba Robusto or really push the boat out and go for the Cohiba Siglo VI
