  • Tubed /Cigars

I'm after nailing down a decent 30min ish smoke in a tubed cigar so I can take them to work with ease, Ihave just ordered a few different tubed Partageas to try but would be interested in any suggustions you may have.

also how long will a tubed cigar keep for when out of a humidor?

    Pantomimehorse,

Two puros come to mind that meet your criteria - R&J No. 2 and Short Churchill. Both come in tubes, are relatively inexpensive and can be smoked within 1/2 hour. I prefer the Short Churchill over the No. 2, but the No. 2 is a great cigar to share with friends or give away.

As far as staying fresh longer out of the humidor, I've read that they may last a bit longer in a tube, which may be true, but I don't rely on that. If I ever have to keep cigars, tubed or not, out of the humidor for a few day, I keep them in a plastic bag, unless I'm in the Carribean.

I was given a few Punch Petit Coronations in tubes over the festive season and they are good short-ish smokes. Loads of strong Punch flavour.

I kept mine in the humidor so can't comment on longevity, mate.

Whilst in the humi I remove the ciger from the tube, but I can't see them lasting a few days in one...

A single Upmann Coronas Major I brought back from Cuba states on the tube that they're fresh until opened. Obviously this has got a lot to do with how old they are in the first place, I expect. They can't be hemetically sealed (not that it would be good anyhow). As you all know, pure novice here, but an observation.

I recently came across (found) three unopened tubes of Punch Petit Coronation that I bought 7 or 8 years ago. My research showed that the did not stay fresh in the tubes - quite crispy and hard, actually.

I performed CPR immediately and they are now resting comfortably in the top drawer of my humidor where they will stay for some time.

Update: they have softened up a bit, but need more rest.

I think that the tube issue has been updated recently. I buy quite a few tubos and note that some of them now come with a tighter cork lined seal and dampened sponge in the tube. I buy them from a shop without a humidor and they are great every time.

                They also bear the legend:

"This cigar has been packed in a sealed container to assure the natural Havana arome and freshness of this cigar when smoked" (Punch Coronation)

"The rich aromatic flavour of this fine Havana cigar will be protected by the aluminium container until opened"(R&J Tubo no.3)

                ...etc etc.

I have found the decent seals in both of these cigars which I have bought recently, as well as a Helix tubo.

They are NOT in the tubed Don Tomas, Montecristo tubo or Churchill I've had. Personally I think they are only doing this with cigars they are bringing to mass market through the supermarkets etc.

Obviously it means you shouldn't open the tube until you're ready to smoke them.

I think what all should bear in mind, is that it is ok if a tubed cigar is in decent humi conditions whilst stored..... but if the temp is high and dry then it will dry out and be out of condition to smoke...
