  • Seals and holograms?

Morning chaps. I received a box of HdM petit robusto this morning dated Mar 10 but it only had a single seal. Am I right in thinking that all habanos after a certain date should carry double seals and a hologram?

I think it should be. One new Warranty seal with hologram. One Habanos seal. But with Cuban's you can never be quite sure what you're going to get.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Did you get the box from a reputable source?

I'd say they are a reputable bunch and I've not had any problems so far. I'm thinking about returning them on quality grounds alone as without even untying the bundle I can see that 4 or 5 of them have splits in the wrapper at the foot.

Well this is in theory what you should expect regarding what seals should be present from what date (and note that the hologram is dependant on the size of the warranty seal - it isn't on the smaller ones) - http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/inf...ging.htm#Seals

But of course if they are split etc then you have your get out of jail free card and they should swap/refund so you won't be taking any risks...

I went on a short tour of the Upmann factory in Havana and saw the boxes being dressed and having their seals put on. I asked why they didnt have holograms and was told that these were the factory seals and a further seal(s) is added by Habanos once batches had been inspected for quality.

IIRC there's still only one warranty seal but it should have a hologram as part of it plus a barcode.........

I've just checked the dress Boxes I bought back from Cuba in may. They definitely have 2 seals one placed on top of the other. The second being the hologram barcoded seal. I' ll try and get some photos up tomorrow but on the meantime have look at the righthand jar in my new in the hi picuyes in may

1/ The new seal (w/ bar code) is often taken off by some vendors because they get their stock from importers that are not supposed to sell outside of their region - none of them want the boxes to be traceable.

(example: a swiss-based vendor buys stock from the importer for Russia or Middle East, when he's allowed to buy only from one of the swiss importers)

2/ You can't reasonably require the replacement of a box because of 4 or 5 splits at the foot. Don't forget that these cigars have travelled extensively (Cuba > Country X > Geneva (I guess) > UK).
Let the vendor know that you're not very happy, send him a picture, he will probably offer you something, possibly with your next order…

                    Too Many Seals.

[QUOTE=Smallclub;103023]1/ The new seal (w/ bar code) is often taken off by some vendors...

Hmmmm. I've seen examples where only the bar code was removed, but not the entire seal. Removal of the bar code alone leaves quite a nasty scar, so I can only imagine what the removal of the entire seal would look like.
