Planning to get a few bits in for the summer and I was wondering if any of our esteemed members have tried and have opinions on this years 'EL' cigars.

Trinidad short T is yummy but SHORT! First time I was offered it I turned it down as it looks comedy small. Shot shot of goodness, like espresso.
Monty was medium and enjoyable. Classic Monte. Nothing earth shattering but a nice relaxing enjoyable smoke you do not need to think about too much.
Loved the Partagas Series D Especial, this is a must to buy in boxes and keep for a few years. It is good "green" but I reckon this will be a great aged cigar. I also suspect this will become a regular production size in the future, like the Hoyo Epicure Especial did. The Partagas Series D Especial is just a trial run for a new regular production, IMHO.
The real surprise for me was the RyJ Wide Churchill. I have an issue with the stupid name but this very light coloured wrapper leaf cigar I thoroughly enjoyed, I suspect more so as I expected nothing from it. I know this is not an LE but new and good anyway.
T."In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

T.
I did not care for the Trinidad. I only smoked 1 and I wasnt tempted to dive back in that box. I'll wait.
The Monte GE is likely to be the most popular of the new EL. It has a good amount of Monte flavor with just a bit extra bite. I suspect that fans of Monte and fans of big ELs like the R&J Duke will really enjoy this smoke.
I agree with Big T. The PSD Esp EL is a very good cigar and the one that BOTls will search out years from now. It has an ugly EL wrapper, that has become more common recently, but it smokes as well as a classic El. Think of the 2004 Serie #1. This will be an exceptional cigar someday.
Enjoy your cigars.

I was going to buy a box of the trinidads until I noticed the price is more expensive than the bigger sized robusto t's so I thought i'd just stick to those. The partags looks tempting. I'm sure these will be superb with some age on them.Smoke em if you've got em

Cheers for the thoughts, fella's.
I'm not the biggest Monte fan, although I'm still yet to get my hands on a Sublime (er, yes T, I know) so if I come across this years EL along the way I'll try it but from your comments I won't be buying a box on spec.
Don't have too much experience with Trinidads so I guess I'll just have to sample and see at some point, although it sounds like the EL isn't particularly better than anything in their regular production range.
Glad to hear that the Partagas doesn't disappoint as its the one out of the three that I had high hopes for. Gotta love the D4 and if this improves on that then I'm all over it.
Interesting that you praise the wide churchill so much, I'm a huge short churchill fan, in fact for a fair while it was my 'go to' cigar but RyJ never seemed to have that much credibilty on this site compared to some of the more fashionable names. I for one was very excited when I saw the plans to release this one. They're due to go on sale anytime now aren't they?
Once again, much obliged for your wisdom, brothersLast edited by macker89; 29-05-2010, 10:20 AM.

I smoked the Trinindad short on friday and it's a lovely little smoke. Very dark wrapper, spicy from the start and a delightful smoke. In boxes of ten they will be bloody wonderful after 3 - 4 years.
