  • El Rey Del Mundo

Met up with a guitarist acquaintance yesterday and he handed me a Cohiba Robusto and a couple of what I think are El Rey Del Mundo Robustos.

He knows I'm partial and he has given up smoking.

I've just smoked one of the El Rey Del Mundos. My very first El Ray.

    What a great smoke!

No long review, but what started off to me as a very mild smoke developed in the second third into a full-bodied taste that I'd compare to the peppery strength of a ripe D4.

I love to discover new punchy cigars, and this discovery was quite by chance.

Just wondered if anyone is a fan of this brand and if you could offer further recommendations...

    Cheers.

If im not mistaken- you smoked the El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme? which is a hermosos no.4 rather than a robusto? I have not had one of these but keen to try it. I find the El Rey Del Mundo choix de l'epoque very mild and i am no fan. I have not closed the book on el rey del mundo, however i dont feel i am a fan of this brand.

I'm not sure which cigar it is precisely, Jimmeh. I had a gawp online and made a guess.

The great think about this thing we all have is that there are always discoveries to be made. I know I like stronger cigars and this ERDM suited my tastebuds so well.

I tend to stick with my tried n testeds so to be given a cigar which I hadn't smoked before - and for it not to be bland for me - was great.

Sometimes you can smoke a gift one that has all the allure of cress!

El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme are a great cigar, split a cab of these a while back and found them a wonderful smoke.

They don't usually get much coverage by "afficionados" as they are often classed as meduim to mild cigars often mentioned only as a daytime smoke. - Which is why I rate them, not overpowering, nice honeyed flavours, slightly tangy but in no way strong or harsh as a Party SD4 can be. I think you would tire of them if smoked too often, as the flavour profile is pretty static, but if your in the mood for a mellow smoke then they are just the ticket on a lazy afternoon/evening with a light drink (white wine, light beer/larger, nothing too flavourful as it would drown out the finer points of a Choix supreme)

So interesting you class it as a stronger cigar? Sure it's an ERDM, just asking. Wonderful how we all have differing views on cigars. Just goes to show, take nothing on trust and try for yourself!

          Good News!

Good to hear the positive comments on the El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme.

Senor serious and I were gifted a 15 year old El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme at Sautters during the inaugural London Puro Walk in March 2009.

Haven't sparked up mine yet, but after reading all the positive comments, looks like this will be the summer to giver 'er a go.

I like the ERDM Choix Supreme! I find it to be a great morning or afternoon smoke. I find it to be mild-medium strength and very flavorful.

Nice to hear you enjoyed the cigar Bryan. I've only had a handful, but liked each one.

A new one on the list for you

I bought a box of these a few months back. Not too heavy on the nicotine but still very flavoursome. Assuming we are talking about the Choix Supreme, I like the fact they are slightly slimmer and longer than a robusto. Just seems to make them smoke smoother to my mind. You tried a Vegas Robaina Famoso, just out of interest?

                    Agreed. An excellent anytime smoke.

I have tried no other shapes and lengths, boys, but certainly will. I know that whatever she was, she was tasty.

I sat there three hours after the end of her and had her taste lingering richly for yonks. I smiled to myself in Sunday night reverie.

We are probably a bit rank to non-aficionados in the comedown with our stogie gums, but balls to others, hey!

Ah, the Choix Supreme. Pierce Brosnan's favourite, aren't they?

I always found them to be slightly fruity for my taste and medium body at most.

Glad to hear you enjoyed one of my fav smokes!

Other classics of the line include the elegant Grandes de Espana, a 7.5 in. Panatela (I'm always looking for more), the tasty little Lunch Club for those times of no time and the spectacular Tainos, a Churchills that is getting hard to find. If you liked the Choix Supreme, you will love the Tainos.

Inexplicably a master case of the LGC Tainos from '98 are still sitting here in Mexico looking for a home.

                            I love these cigars.

My source of Tainos from December 2000 seems to have dried up...
Hmmm... wonder if I can get cheap flights to Marida?
