  • Upmann No 1

Smoked an Upmann Conoisseur No1 last night. Cut it with a Wolf V cutter and had smooked about half an inch when I basically drew in a mouthful of tar.

Looked at the end where the V cut had been made and could see a serious build-up of tar which had seemingly touched my tongue and left the foul taste. I ended up giving the end another V cut so that there was now a cross, and carried on smoking the cigar down to the nub, being very careful to avoid the tar spot.

I know that V cutters and punches are often blamed for a build-up of tar, but I have been using both for years and never experienced this before.

Quick question - has anyone ever had a serious build-up like this before? It was literally a small droplet of tar.

I had this from some Bolivar's a while back, they were new cigars, I think I was smoking too quickly and drawing a tad too hard. That's what I put it down too anyway.
I was working around Haslemere today, coincidently

I have never experienced this either with any type of cigar, but I don't use a punch or v cutter either.

The Connie #1 is on my to try list too. I really like the Upman Mag line.

The No 1 and Upmann Mag line are utterly superb (even with the tar spots!)

WTF first 1/2 " tar ? Do ya think they add it to the cigar for roofing purposes or to give it more power ? And we talk about NC cigars having additives ! LMAO roofing
