  • The roller is back in town

I was at Sautters today and had the pleasure of meeting Anibal Delgado Gonzalez who has just arrived in the UK, and of smoking one of his cigars.

He will be at Sautter tomorrow and then moves on around the UK.

He is here to conduct a twelve week tour of the UK to demonstrate the fine art of a Cuban cigar roller.

Hailing from Havana, Anibal has been a torcedor (cigar roller) for more than twenty years. He is classified as a 9th grade roller ? the highest achievable and able to roll every vitola (size) within the Habanos SA portfolio. He began his career in 1985 at the Romeo y Julieta factory but now plies his trade at La Corona in the heart of Havana.

In 2000 he was selected to participate in rolling demonstrations around the world and so far has visited Guatamala, Argentina, Uruguay, Bahrain, Greece, Chile and China.

          Thanks for the mention Nic,

          Your text looks strangely familiar...

Kdot, Anibal is not due to visit Scotland, but we have a second roller arriving at the beginning of August and we have pencilled in a week north of the boarder for them. I will get back to you when this has been confirmed.

For full listings of all the confirmed dates for Anibal's tour take a look at the events section of the www.cigars.co.uk website. This is subject to some changes but should give you a good idea of where he will be.

                    This boy can really roll.

I picked up one of his finest at Sautter on Tuesday, (only ?15 each and going fast) and it has been burning a hole in my Humidor ever since.

I have had fresh rolled cigars before (from Sam Leccia and one a friend gave me from the festival) but I never got to them before they went sick and I was determined to smoke this inside a week.

It cut beautifully a real moist yielding to the cutter. The stick felt very light for the gauge and it was a phat one.

One of the first thing you have to say was that it smelled bloody wonderful, downright musty and rude.

It drew really easily unlit and after three matches it was glowing well. The smoke just billowed and was fabulous.

It smoked smoothly and smelled fantastic.

I can't do the taste comparisons but I can say that i shall be following the rollers travels with great interest and popping in to see him at every possible opportunity for more of these wonderful sticks.

I called Johnny and I can confirm he was having a well earned days rest today and will be back at his desk on Friday and Saturday, be sure to catch up with him.

I think I was told between 1 and two weeks and then you need to leave alone for about 6 months.
