i couldn't pinpoint for sure about what i didn't like about the JL2, but i can tell you, i chucked it at about the halfway point!!! i was assured that it must've been a duff one, so i bought another single.........same thing, didn't like the taste and chucked it after smoking half!!!! but everyone else on here loves 'em, so something has to be said for that!!!!!

as for the P2.........i bought a 3 pack to try one, since the PSD4 is my fav robusto!!!! smoked 1 and bought a box of 10 right after (it's all i could've afforded at that moment of madness, lol)!!!! yes, they're THAT good!!!! they're the next step up from the humble D4 imo!!!!!

so, the boxes listed..........are they boxes you already own?

I prefer the 46, size and flavour, the 50 was not quite as good as the 50 LE but might improve with more age....

I'd recommend 46 over 50 too. Very fine cigar with age,
The upmann 2s are extremely good with age, smoking through a box of 2001s which are miles ahead of more recent years. The whole upmann range I'd say are perfect if you're looking to age but for a box to smoke right now, I'd be more inclined to say party p2s, boli BFs,

i would go for Partagas Short 50 cabinet
trust me, they taste exactly same as Partagas D5 Limited Editions,
except they were smaller and much cheaper

i have to say, i think the argument of the regular magnum 50 against the magnum 50 2005 EL is deeply flawed!!!! as we all know, the EL's are made with aged tobacco leaves, with means they've got a maduro profile!!!! the regular magnum 50 is a fantastic cigar, considering it hasn't had the special aging treatment!!!! also, it's considerably more cheaper than it's EL twin.......

also, i prefer it to the magnum 46!!!! it seems more refined and tastey, plus it looks impressive!!! lol!!!

but.......if you're going to go for the bigger cigars, you've already indicated you like the partagas brand, go for a box of the P2's!!!! trust me (and everyone else on here), you'll not be disappointed!!!! also, the h upmann magnum 50 is a safe bet, as is the HDM epicure especial!!!!

however, since you've already gave your case for smoking robustos, i still recommend the vegas robaina famosos!!!! an awesome addition to any humidor.........

I think they are both a good smoke, I did not detect a 'maduro profile' on the 50 EL's I smoked, they had a colorado wrapper colour, and the filler/binder were not maduro leaf colour either, the non aged 50 may as I said improve with more age, every other smoker I've spoke to or review I've read has concluded similar...that the aged 50 (EL) is better than the non aged 50, that?s not to say I'd recommend the EL as an everyday smoke, but you can buy the 46 with age, 2001/2 46's are smoking superb at the moment.

The aged 46 I smoked recently and the No. 2's that I got from Joe where very good.. (thanks Joe ) I smoked a 50 just before which was not as good, many others also prefer the 46 you can read a few of the reviews here.

The original list Soul put up was what he already has... and he has D4's and Shorts already! the P2's are good but so are the Trinidad Robusto T's, and the VR Famosos, RS 11 (Which will be discontinued this year!!) and the SLR A's etc. there?s plenty of other great smoke's to try from other brands first....

Now that you mention it, I've had my eye on the Trinidads. They seem to be well reviewed, if not widely so.

I do like a robusto, but I'm not set on it--I love my partagas shorts, and a less timely cigar can sometimes be just the right thing.

Quite. Trinidad has, in my opinion (and only that), taken the title of premier cigar brand away from Cohiba (well, BHKs etc excepted...) Over the coming year, as and when cash becomes available, I intend to compare similar vitolas from each brand to test my hypothesis. It's a hard life I have set for myself...

bte, i totally agree with you simon, i think that the trinidad brand is a serious contender for habanos sa's premier cigar!!!! not a duff one in it's (quite small) range!!!! the reyes and robusto T are 2 heavenly cigars, that wipe the floor with their cohiba counterparts!!! though saying that, you'd expect that, since they are as expensive as cohibas!!!

Sort of agree with you Alex. The Reyes are my favourite smoke. But in saying that I've only ever as yet smoked the cheaper Cohiba's so wouldn't like to say that Trinni are better all round.

An interesting comparison I would think, might be the Lancero v Fundadores, as both were produced to serve as Cuban State Flagship cigars.
