  • 2009 seal question for the experts

Has anyone bought the selection robusto 5 pack lately? I just recieved 2 of them and thought it was strange that the box codes were late 2009 but had the old warranty seal without the barcode. All other 2009 cigar boxes I've recieved in the past had the new warranty seal and sometimes both but not just the old seal on newer boxes. Perhaps this is something they only do on the selection series?
    Any thoughts
Andif you have bought a selection robusto please chime in on how yours was boxed. mine had a warranty seal on the outer cardboard box as well as the wooden nature box.

I've the Seleccion Piramides Tom. USE OCT08. They're boxed in exactly the way you describe. 'Old style' seals and Habanos stickers on the presentation box and on the cardboard outer.
If you want to, you can.

      Band.

This is a photograph from an 03 box. The seals were on the outside and none on the inside. I also have the pyramid selection from 07 which had the band on the actual box.

I do not think there is any set way to whether the labels are on the carton or the actual box itself.

[QUOTE=whisky77;81725] I also have the pyramid selection from 07 which had the band on the actual box.

One other thing. The cigars in mine were individually cello-wrapped. I think the idea is to prevent flavour cross-over.

            Wow.
I've seen a lot of the "sampler" boxes of both the Robustos and the Piramides including being filled @ the Partagas factory and I've NEVER seen any cello wrapped cigars. Cuban products "totalmente a mano" are never in cello.

That said, I don't recall seeing any actually "dated" 2009 so there may be a policy change, though that would be amazing.
I also maintain that the five cigars in the samplers are all the same with different shades of wrappers and different bands.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

One of my go-to stores in Havana said that when the new (bar code) seals came out, some folks from Tabacuba (or Habanos?) came to the shop and applied the new seals over the old ones on every box.
Like you, I've only seen boxes of late with the new seals applied over the old.

I recently watched smokes being boxed at La Corona and they were putting OLD STYLE seals (no bar code) on every box. They explained that the new seals were only put on at the Tabacuba warehouse but that no boxes of cigars could leave the factory without a seal-thus the "double hit".
I hazard a guess that your boxes somehow missed the official re-sealing.. or perhaps they came from that factory in Panama where they haven't yet been able to make the new seals with those pesky holograms and bar codes.

The cello is unusual, the seals come and go.

Simple question should answer your questions....did they come from a respectable source?
